Labor Day Was Too Much Work

September 4, 2007 · Filed Under · 4 Comments

My Next CarMy wife and I traveled to my parents cabin located in Truckee, CA, in the Sierra Nevada’s with our 3 kids and had a great labor day weekend. My Dad and I actually painted the cabin and still had some time to play a little golf and do some swimming with the kids. It was not until the 4 hour drive home with 3 tired kids that I started to question my sanity. Here is what I learned:

1- Goldfish snacks when mixed with the car A/C system makes the entire vehicle smell just like toe cheese.

2- Never let a 2-year old play with your iPod earphones.

3- Don’t threaten to stop the vehicle when it is 105 degrees outside.

4- Our next car will have a separate bench seat for each child. (perhaps a small school bus would work!)

5- Ignore any child that either says or makes reference to the phrase, “Are we there yet?”

6- Do not speed up in an attempt to get home sooner. This excuse does not work with the highway patrol.

7- Work harder so I can someday afford a private jet!

Great post, Kyle. Though I’m surprised you didn’t mention anything about “bathroom breaks”…

Andrew – three words, “diapers for all”.

But seriouly, yeah bathroom breaks are always interesting.

Hah. Are you included in that “all”? Heh… Our 2 year old’s still in diapers and the 4 year old only wears them at night. So I can only imagine the stops we’d be making on a long trip… But hey, that’s better than the alternative.

Much better than the alternative for sure!
