Top 10 Personal Finance Blogs
Just 6 short years ago I had over $60,000 in credit card debt for a variety of VERY bad financial and personal decisions. Thanks to blogs like these I was able to learn the correct way to get out of debt and how to establish solid credit once again. This is my 3rd installment of blogs that I frequent often and think are very well done. This installment focuses on the top 10 personal finance blogs that I subscribe to and find very helpful in terms of getting my personal finances in order. Roll em……
- Brip Blap - This blog is written anonymously by a guy who writes about not only personal finance, buy also family, career, and productivity. His blog is fairly new and I really like his no-nonsense approach to writing. His posts are always very easy to understand and typically bring a smile to my face at some point. Good sound advice as well, one recent post I really liked is titled 7 things to consider before you buy stuff which focuses on consumerism and what stuff is needed and what is “wanted”. This concept is not a new subject but this post helps to differentiate between the 2 in a new and creative way. Well done Brip Blap, cool name too.
- Moolanomy - Pinyo at Moolanomy.com has another personal finance blog that I enjoy. I really like his idea of setting financial goals that are real and achievable. He has set up a goal of having his investment portfolio be worth $1 million dollars by 2017. The majority of his posts are geared toward achieving his goals and his readers goals. I like his clever writing style, he also posts everyday with new insightful posts on topics related to increasing your net worth.
- Four Pillars - This is a blog written by a Canadian man (not that it really matters!) and I find his posts very educational and insightful. I particularly like his posts on investing and baby expenses. As a father of a 3 month old baby I found the baby expenses stuff really interesting, he really nails this one from all possible angles. Many of which I had yet to even consider.
- Lazy Man and Money – Um….well, that blog title pretty much sums me up. I like this blog and am a faithful reader mainly for the finance tips. One that I really got a lot out of was titled Finances: Don’t Take them So Personally which deals with how people (including myself) are throwing away money every month. He uses the examples off paying off a mortgage early and paying back debt and the correct way to do both. Good stuff.
- Poorer Than You - This is a very entertaining blog “written by the girl at the bottom of the ladder, climbing her way up.” She deals with financial issues involved with going to college, staying out of debt, and how to get out of debt the smartest way possible. I particularly found the post titled Building Credit the Stable Way very insightful and a great reference. Well done Stephanie, I always enjoy reading your blog.
- Free Money Finance – Now here is a blog that is really chalked full of great advice on getting your finances in order, often done with a twist and sense of humor. One post that was written recently and should be printed out and given to every college kid is The 10 Best Money Moves You Can Make. It goes into detail the do’s and don’ts of managing your money. Definitely a read that is worth your time.
- Everybody Loves Your Money – Well, I know everybody I do business with seems to love my money! I really enjoy this blog because it deals more with consumerism and how to get the most bang possible out of your hard earned money. Excellent advice on how to retire with money is in this post What Should Your Net Worth Be At 30? Being in my early 30’s I found this to be sound advice and have printed out this post for future use.
- Money and Such - The theme of this blog is managing your finances in your 20’s, 30’s & 40’s. As I noted earlier, I am in my early 30’s so I always get a lot out of “Shadox’s” posts. Particular when it comes to investing and topics like market fluctuations and asset allocations. Nice to get the opinion of someone in my age group and strategies they are using towards investing for the long term.
- The Sun’s Financial Diary – Sun has some great personal finance advice and tips that spread from credit cards, free stuff, investment opportunities, and even shopping deals. I always learn something from his blog which I think is a result of well thought out posts. His personal financial details are very complex and would make me go crazy I think, but it is kinda interesting to see what he does.
- Get Richly Slowly- Last but not least, Get Rich Slowly is authored by J.D. and deals with personal finance topics like debt elimination and practical investing. I always enjoy their very practical approach for staying out of debt and making sure you don’t live beyond your means. Well worth your time to subscribe to this blog.
