95th Festival of Frugality: Pets and Food, Shop Smart!

October 12, 2007 · Filed Under · Comment

Festival TimeI was very impressed with some of the posts that I found at the 95th Festival of Frugality hosted over at My Retirement Blog this week. I was honored to have my post What I Learned About Frugality from Ken Burns, ‘The War’ included as well. Also, I am very excited to host the 101st Festival of Frugality right here on my blog on November 20th, it will be the first time I have ever hosted one of these and I am really looking forward to it. I wanted to take a moment to highlight 5 posts that I really enjoyed from this weeks festival.

  • Brett over The Frugal Law Student has a great post on 27 Ways To Save Money on Food. I especially like the idea of having a grocery cart full of ingredients rather than ready made food. Not only is it cheaper to do your own cooking but much better for you.
  • Summer at Your Frugal Family has a useful post called Make Your Own Cheap Halloween Costumes. The big day is only a couple weeks away, crazy! She has some great tips on how to put together a great costume frugally. Personally, I would just raid my Dad’s closet and go as a nerd every year.  :-)   This post was also an editor’s favorite.
  • Also an editor’s choice Frugal Panda has a very extensive post titled 57 Creative Ideas to Save Money As a Pet Owner. This is a must read for not only new pet owners but people thinking of acquiring a dog or cat. Get a pet that will work for you is great advice! I know friends who bought a Border Collie and have a tiny backyard, not good!
  • Amy at Mom Advice.com Blog submitted a post called Day 30: Life’s Great Lessons that I found very profound. In it, she talks about the benefits of living within her means. Includes surrounding yourself with like-minded folks, and choosing to be smart consumers. Good read.
  • Silicon Valley Blogger has a post titled 8 Lessons I Learned From The Cheapest Family In The Nation that was really eye opening. They are a family of 7 and live off $35,000 a year. SVB documents how they do it. This is also an editor’s pick and worth reading!
