10 Reasons Why I Would Take A Job At Starbucks

January 28, 2008 · Filed Under · 6 Comments

This Guy Loves StarbucksI recently read an interesting post by Sharon at The Frugal Duchess where she documented 10 very logical reasons why she would work at Starbucks. Sharon inspired me to write my own list, but from a slightly different point of view. So without further ado, or with no ado at all, here is my list:

  1. Could finally add ‘Barista’ to my resume.
  2. Only way to re-coup the money spent on my $4 coffee milkshakes over the years.
  3. Could listen to Norah Jones all day and not have to question my sexuality.
  4. Could make $8/hour and not have to ask “Do you want fries with that.”
  5. Would make it easy to finally incorporate ‘Venti’ and ‘Grande’ into my everyday vernacular.
  6. Could take home the leftover brewed coffee and use it to kill the poison oak on my property.
  7. Could use my employee discount to get the newest version of Cranium at a great price.
  8. At the end of my shift, I could ring out my socks for a nice cup of Toe Java.
  9. Could finally wear a green apron in public.
  10. And the tenth reason I would take a job at Starbucks, two words, “free whippits.”

Feel free to add your reasons or just go away and pretend you did not waste your time on my blog today!

Hah! Nice list, Kyle! Personally I’m not a fan of Starbucks. Not just cause of the crazy high prices or the fact they have to be different and use venti and grande (I still refuse to say those when I order)… but the coffee itself is just too bitter for my taste.

    But toe java? Really? Bleargh.

I’d be worried about abusive customers, I guess. But I wouldn’t mind working at one if I needed a job. And those are some pretty fun reasons. :)

Andrew, yeah I can’t handle the bitterness either. That is why I am thinking the toe java might taste better, especially if you wear wool socks, it might filter it a bit!

MM, agree, mean people suck. Whenever you work with public you run into abusive customers. When I worked at The Home Depot I had some customers that I wanted to choke with my orange apron.

#1 reason I would love to work at Starbucks, the customers! I don’t drink coffee, but I occassionaly have a tea before I go to my second job (in the same building)….and I see people just going crazy about orders and then about how the coffee isn’t brewed correctly. I could write an excellent book about the deterioration of manners in america! ;)

SavingDiva, I can see it on the bookshelf now, ‘Snobs at Starbucks: The End Of Western Civilization’. Buy now for only $29.99, which includes a $10 gift card for Maxwell House.

Here’s the best reason. Heard yesterday that folks who work 1/2 time at Starbucks still get full benefits: Pension and insurance. Sweet. Where do I send my resume?
