Are We Running Low On Cows?

July 1, 2008 · Filed Under , ·

Ice cream is shrinking! Anybody notice how many Ice Cream containers that were always half gallon in size are now smaller, yet they sell for the same price?  What the heck is going on? First, we have to deal with Celebrity Circus on NBC, now this? The apocalypse must be near.

The new sizes are half a quart smaller. It made me ponder what ice cream makers are thinking. Hide the cats and cover the kids ears, yes, I was pondering again. Here are my 4 best guesses as to why Ice Cream containers are getting smaller:

  1. In an effort to drive up demand, all cows are being held hostage at the farm of Jerry. Ben was seen playing it cool on a beach in the Bahamas. Half eaten container of Cherry Garcia in hand.
  2. Tests have proven that the hands of Americans are getting smaller. So ice cream makers figured we just wouldn’t notice!
  3. As Americans keep getting fatter, ice cream makers plan on marketing the new containers as ’Fun Size’.
  4. Rumor has it that Baskins and Robbins are taking all their financial advice from OPEC.

Do you have any guesses?

Yes! I noticed this a couple years ago when they dropped all the containers from 1/2 gallon to 1.75 quarts. Now they’ve dropped them again to 1.5 quarts. I’m beyond irritated.

Lol I like your reasons! I think sizes are probably getting smaller but prices are staying the same. That way, people think that prices aren’t so bad, even though the value of their purchase is going down.

I noticed this only when my favorite brand (Blue Bell) started advertising on their trucks “Still 1/2 gallon.” It wasn’t until then that I realized that others were not 1/2-gallon any longer. Thanks, Blue Bell, for staying true to us! Now I need some of your best-in-the-world Cookies and Cream!

Yeah for Blue Bell! Way to represent those with a family that can easily go through an entire 1.5 quart container in a sitting.

It’s annoying. I like ice cream and don’t want to end up buying it in the single serving size package because that’s all there is. I’d rather they just raise the price as opposed to insult my intelligence!

I just noticed this myself recently.

I was buying my favorite…thinking what a great deal I had found, when my mom, who was with me, said…”yeah, but it is smaller than is used to be.”

    I was shocked!
