Travel Surprises + A Couple Coupons
Got back last night from our final summer fling. My wife and I took the kids to a San Francisco Giants game, to Gilroy Gardens, and to the beach on the beautiful Monterey Pennisula. We had a great time, but it had some interesting financial travel surprises. Here are a few:
- Gas Prices. At one point on the vacation, I actually got excited when I found gas at only $4.13 a gallon. It made me consider the post I did about the great new uses for my truck!
- Park or Eat? When we pulled into the parking lot at the Giants game, and I saw the sign that said it cost $30 to park, I darn near passed out. Are you kidding me? Who, besides Bill Gates can afford to take their entire family to a game more than once a year? Ridiculous. Don’t even get me started on the price for a hot dog and beer either! Go to a minor league or high school game instead.
- Toyota Prius Snobs. I use to think that people that owned a Prius and had a license plate that read “4 R PLANET”, were upitidy folks who were trying to make a statement rather than save money. Starting to reconsider that opinion!
Also, upon my return, I had some great new online coupons in my Inbox. Here are a few that grabbed my attention.

Do you use Restaurants.com?
They have great deals on $25 coupons for $10, and a lot of the time there’s a half-off special so you get them for $5. There are a few small conditions, but they’re easy to comply with. You can save a ton of money using these coupons if you find restaurants of your liking. Over the weekend they had an 80% off sale, and I got $25 coupons for $2.
oops, I just found them on your website and realized it’s restaurant.com (I had a link and forgot the exact name)
It’s a great deal, at any rate.
Happy shopping!
I actually have coupons for Restaurant.com on my site, http://www.rather-be-shopping.com/restaurant-coupons.htm
Unfortunately, they don’t any participating restaurants in my area.
Thanks for coming by and leaving a comment Merna!
I can feel your pain, my brother. Though oddly enough, it’s cheaper to park right by Yankee Stadium in NY. I found a nice big garage only 3 blocks from the stadium for just $17 during the game. But add that on to the ticket prices themselves (which are beyond ridiculous), as well as food (only $4.50 for a hot dog, and a mere $8.50 for a beer)…
Andrew, for $8.50 I want that beer to have 5 cold friends. Crazy!
Wow…with prices like that, the cornfields of Ohio are looking better and better.
Cincinnati Reds have had specials the last few weeks.
$5 admittance and $1 Hot Dog nights ( plus the kids get a free gift if you are the first so many 1,000th thru the gate ). And, parking, well, let’s just say it is basically nothing compared to what you paid!
With young kids, it is a great deal just to get them in to see the sport..irregardless who is playing.
And,I hate to even mention I have only been paying only in the $3.20s for gas after my 10 cent Kroger discount and 10% off gift cards from their Stimulus Check program.
But, alas, it is, well, Ohio!!!
OK, that’s it! I’m moving my family to Ohio!!
