Great Tips For Bargain Christmas Gift Giving

October 10, 2008 · Filed Under , ·

Every once in a while something comes along that I just have to share. With the economy, housing market, and stock market in the toilet, this Christmas will be one where my wife and I will really be looking to have a budget when it comes to gift giving. But we still want to give thoughtful gifts! So when I watched the great advice my buddy Jennifer Melnick Carota, aka The Gift Therapist, gave on her recent ‘gift giving’ video I just had to ask her if I could post in on my blog. She said, “Please share Kyle!” So here is the video. I hope you will find it as useful as I did!

Here is what I really liked about her advice:

  • Shop sales all year long, not just around Christmas.
  • ALWAYS shop with Cash!!
  • Have a plan. Know what gifts you are looking for and for whom.
  • Shop at discount stores like TJ Maxx and Big Lots.
  • Put together a thoughful gift basket by using smaller, inexpensive gifts.
  • Buy in bulk and break it up into seperate gifts!

Try this to save mega-bucks this year! Choose a theme, give in 3’s and NOT look like a cheapskate:
Item 1: Central gift from your favorite discount department store clearance rack! (i.e. warm fuzzy robe)
    2. A homemade gift from your kitchen or craft bin (i.e. a batch of homemade cookies or hand knitted slippers)
    3. A wildcard gift from the dollar store that goes with your theme (i.e. Gourmet hot chocolate, a great book, or relaxation CD)
Use this technique and you’ll be amazed at how much you save!!!
    Thanks, Kyle! You ROCK!

    Hi All,
I have been blogging on a few sites tonight to tell people of the wonderful gift that I received from my son last Christmas. I thought I would pass along the info as this year I am following his lead and purchasing survival kits for all of my friends and family. Go to http://www.survivalkitsonline.com for great gift ideas. My son bought me the deluxe kit but I am purchasing some of the small perfect kits as gifts for under $20.00 in fact they are only $15.95 so it is even better yet.

    Happy Holidays!
    Tina

For a real bargain gift that they won’t return, make a donation to their favorite charity in your recipient’s honor. Such “gifting” helps the charity, helps your pocketbook, helps the planet (by reducing the amount of “stuff” we exchange, and may even help your recipient feel more of the “Christmas Spirit.”
