Product Review: Mr. Clean Magic Eraser

December 17, 2008 · Filed Under · 9 Comments

A few weeks ago the folks at Proctor & Gamble sent me a package asking if I would take the ‘Magic Eraser Challenge’!  My first thought was, “Didn’t I go on that ride with my 4 year old daughter at Disneyland last year?” But once I opened the box and realized what the challenge entailed, I was intrigued to give it a try and an honest review.

As you can tell from the picture, they sent me a 2-pack of the Magic Eraser, a sample of the leading brand (Clorox with Bleach), a couple filthy & greasy tiles, some crayons, and an orange Crayola marker. I was very impressed with the very thorough and easy to use testing kit!

So here is what I did: I put the orange marker on one side of each tile, crayon on the other, and then I just wiped in the center of each tile to see how well both products took off the grease and dirt. For the Clorox spray, I just used a regular scrubbing sponge from our kitchen. The results will amaze you (maybe):

As you can tell from the after picture the Magic Eraser won this challenge hands down. I must also add that I scrubbed really hard on both tiles and the Clorox just smudged the grease while the Magic Eraser sponge took all 3 stains off with relative ease. Very impressive. I then took the dampened sponge and used it on the handle of our refrigerator and it easily took off years of hands prints and built up dirt and grunge!

I was so dang excited that I went around our home and discovered that the Magic Eraser also works great on walls, floors, doors, appliances, showers, and even my dirty tennis shoes! As for price, I saw it at our local store for $2.69 for a 2-count package. Give it a try, I think you will be just as impressed as myself.

Have any of you had a similar or different experience with the Magic Eraser? I look forward to your comments.

“Un”Frugalist Picture of the Day

December 9, 2008 · Filed Under , · 1 Comment

While visiting my folks a couple weeks ago for Thanksgiving, I saw this in their garage and just froze in my tracks and stared!  As many of you are already aware, my Dad is the most frugal guy I know, but my Mom on the other hand, suffers from the “It’s on sale, so I must buy 6, syndrome”.  Mom, what the heck happened?  Did I have up a great coupon for Shoes.com or Zappos and you just couldn’t refuse?

Although, I have to admit, the picture is kind of like the classic book, “Where’s Waldo?”  Can you figure out how many pairs of shoes are actually in the picture?  I think I count 6. How about you?  (Note to Mom: Sorry, I just couldn’t resist! Are we still invited for Christmas? ;-) )

Review: Elite Occasions.com

December 5, 2008 · Filed Under · 2 Comments

A couple weeks ago, Chelsea at Elite Occasions.com contacted me and asked if I could mention her gift basket business on my blog. I told her to send me a gift basket and I would be more than happy to do a honest review. She thought that was a great idea and I received my custom gift basket yesterday. How cool!

Now I should preface this review by saying that I have never gotten a gift basket that I actually liked. Typically, they are filled with processed cheese and meat logs that even my dogs turn their nose up to. So I went into this a bit skeptical of what Chelsea was going to send me. But I must admit, I was pleasantly surprised with what Elite Occasions sent my way. I would even say I was blown away becuase I will eat or use everything in it!

The cool thing about Elite Occasions is their ability to customize. Chelsea asked me a couple questions about what I liked and she tailored it for me. Very neat! I told her I like golf, salty foods, chewy candy, coffee and my favorite color was blue. She took that info and created something that I will be munching on and enjoying while sitting here at my desk adding online coupons until December 24th!

I have already enjoyed the Jelly Belly jelly beans and the pistachios. Oh, and the seasoned pretzels as well! My kids have their eyes on the milk chocolate golf balls and the Ghiradelli coffee is ALL mine tomorrow morning. Oh, and the golf ball bottle opener is awesome!

Bottomline, if you are looking for a great custom gift idea this Christmas, I encourage you to check out the Elite Occasions website, they just might have the perfect gift idea for ya.

By the way, does anyone know of an easy way to get pretzel crumbs out of a keyboard? :-)

Protecting Your Money With Secret Discounts

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! If I don’t eat again for a couple more days I think I will be just fine. What is it with the Pumpkin Pie? No matter how much turkey and stuffing you eat, you still can’t resist a slice (or three).

But anyways, I want to publicly thank Jennifer over at The Gift Therpaist for mentioning Rather-Be-Shopping.com to WTAE-TV in Pittsburgh as a great place to go for online coupons and a good way to save a few bucks on your Christmas shopping. Jennifer, you rock, thanks again! Make sure to check out the very informative 2-part series with WTAE News Jennifer did on how to Stretch Your Holiday Dollars. Some very timely advice that will not only save you money, but really blow away the recipients on your gift list this year!

~ Also, about Cyber Monday, I think I figured it out! What you ask? The reason Cyber Monday generates a lot of online sales. I think it may be because your work computer is the one where your spouse can’t check the sites you have been shopping at. That makes sense. But if your spouse regularly logs on to the computer to check your history, then we may have a bigger issue at hand! Just a thought.
