Product Review: Mr. Clean Magic Eraser

December 17, 2008 · Filed Under · 9 Comments

A few weeks ago the folks at Proctor & Gamble sent me a package asking if I would take the ‘Magic Eraser Challenge’!  My first thought was, “Didn’t I go on that ride with my 4 year old daughter at Disneyland last year?” But once I opened the box and realized what the challenge entailed, I was intrigued to give it a try and an honest review.

As you can tell from the picture, they sent me a 2-pack of the Magic Eraser, a sample of the leading brand (Clorox with Bleach), a couple filthy & greasy tiles, some crayons, and an orange Crayola marker. I was very impressed with the very thorough and easy to use testing kit!

So here is what I did: I put the orange marker on one side of each tile, crayon on the other, and then I just wiped in the center of each tile to see how well both products took off the grease and dirt. For the Clorox spray, I just used a regular scrubbing sponge from our kitchen. The results will amaze you (maybe):

As you can tell from the after picture the Magic Eraser won this challenge hands down. I must also add that I scrubbed really hard on both tiles and the Clorox just smudged the grease while the Magic Eraser sponge took all 3 stains off with relative ease. Very impressive. I then took the dampened sponge and used it on the handle of our refrigerator and it easily took off years of hands prints and built up dirt and grunge!

I was so dang excited that I went around our home and discovered that the Magic Eraser also works great on walls, floors, doors, appliances, showers, and even my dirty tennis shoes! As for price, I saw it at our local store for $2.69 for a 2-count package. Give it a try, I think you will be just as impressed as myself.

Have any of you had a similar or different experience with the Magic Eraser? I look forward to your comments.

I love Magic Eraser. They also work well on flat paint and floor boards.

My 4 year old son had marked all his walls with crayons. We tried everything. I saw the commerical for the magic eraser. It came off with ease and it did not damage the paint on the wall.

I had my son clean the hallway walls (smudges and handprints) and they came off with ease.

I wish they were a little more durable (or maybe I am heavyhanded) They dissolve and you cannot reuse them too many times.

I absolutely love the Magic Eraser. It works wonderfully on removing scuff marks from my kitchen floor and the grime in the bathroom.

Hi Kyle! I love magic eraser too–just make sure to wear gloves. (It’s alkaline and can cause some pretty rotten burns.) ME is about the only thing that will take the gunky, dusty buildup off the top of the fridge, for those of you who are like me and forget to clean the top of the fridge but once or twice a year.

    Happy New Year!

    Jen

Well…I got roofing tar on both of my arms and nothing would take it off so I tried my Magic Eraser (which I love) and it took the tar right off and I had two of the nastiest burns on my arms, actually they were like floor burns :) My daughter did the same thing trying to get marker off my grandaughters face :( be careful don’t use on tender skin… The best thing I love about them is that they are wonderful to clean the shower, takes the dry soap scum off so easy!

I LOVE the Magic Eraser! I am an Art Teacher…and man…there are so many things I use the Magic Eraser for in my classroom and at home! It works on Permanent Markers, Crayons, really anything! I have used it to remove India INK from my tables! I love the ease of it as all you need to do is add water.

Now, I have actually had the Magic Eraser to remove paint from the walls if you aren’t careful; however, I have used it on my walls with no problem to erase my son’s masterpieces. :-)

Also, for a more cost effective trial of the Eraser…Try the Target Brand next to the name brand! Seriously, just as good. I prefer the one that is solid white without the color side.
