Frugal Picture Of The Week!
I was in Australia visiting my sister this past April and was walking down the streets of Sydney when this sign at a Blockbuster store reached out and grabbed my attention. Cracked me up! I had to take a picture. You would never see a sign like this at a U.S. Blockbuster store. They would be too afraid that it would insult someone and they would sue them! Kind of sad actually. But a very funny picture!

5 Great Frugal Halloween Costumes
As a kid, I don’t think my parents ever bought me a Halloween costume from the store. I was always on my own to come up with something ridiculous. I would come up with an idea and find stuff around the house to complete the outfit. Worked fine and was typically a lot more comfortable than those plastic costumes and masks that the stores sold. Nothing worse than a plastic mask jabbing you in the eye as you grovel for candy.

Here are 5 frugal costumes ideas, some of which I actually did as a kid:
- Be A Nerd! – Lucky for me, my Dad was a “nerdy” science teacher who hadn’t updated his wardrobe in 20 years. I actually think his closet was rented to the producers of the fantastic movie ‘Revenge of the Nerds’. I went Trick or Treatin’ as a nerd at least twice growing up….
- A Scarecrow – Or a nerdy Scarecrow with a pocket protector if need be. But seriously, all you need to pull this one off is an old pair of jeans, a flannel shirt, and some straw. Stuff the straw in all your pockets and have it coming out of your shirt and shoes and you are good to go. Throw on some face paint and you will keep birds off of you all night long! Not that they were a problem to begin with.
- A Bag of Leaves – I saw a kid dressed as this last Halloween. It was really cute. He had real leaves attached to him everywhere and he carried a little rake. Not sure how his parents attached the leaves. Hey, sorry, who do I look like, Martha Stewart.
- Martha Stewart – Carry a glue gun and wear striped pajamas. This costume would have killed, what, 3 years ago?
- Larry King! (easy off-shoot from costume idea #1) - OK, this one is easy. First, dress like a nerd then buy some big, cheap, square rimmed glasses. To finish off the outfit, use a cane and babble a lot of incoherent words. And yes the picture above is of Larry King on a windy day. Now that is scary!!
Any frugal Halloween costume ideas you would like to add to my list? Please feel free. Have a safe and happy Halloween everybody!

4 Great Money Saving Websites
I am continually impressed with the large amount of websites that exist to help YOU save money and make your paycheck go as far as possible every month. Just when I think that I have visited all the good ones, I find more that I want to share with you. As we head towards the holiday shopping season, it can get very expensive if we are not careful. The following sites should be bookmarked if you are into finding great deals on gift ideas as well as everyday grocery products that we all need. Here we go, in no particular order:
~ Coupon Kim.com - I discovered this site the other day when Kim gave my site a cool award. The ‘One Lovely Blog’ award to be exact. Nice honor, thanks Kim. But after checking out Kim’s site, I must say that I was quite impressed. She specializes in Drug Stores coupons, grocery store deals at stores like Albertsons, Aldi, Food Lion, Harris, Teeter, Harvey’s, Ingles, Kroger, Publix, and Vons to name a few. This takes a lot of work to put these coupons together for her users. Check her site before you go grocery shopping. She also has some great tips on the best way to use coupons at grocery and drugstores.
~ Never Pay Retail.net - Jodi also has a website that will help you save money. I love her tagline, “champagne tastes and a tap water budget.” Like me, she also has 3 young children and also like me, hates to pay full price when you don’t have to. Her site gives out online coupons to particular stores, as well as weekly grocery store coupons so you can get the most bang for your buck. Take a look, I think you will end up bookmarking it!
~ The Dealista - As I have mentioned before, I absolutely love Podcasts! My motto is ‘who wants to read when we can just sit back and listen’! So when I found the very informative podcasts hosted by Linsey Knerl and Lynn Truong, it was love at first site. Their podcasts are all about ways to shop wisely, spend less, and get more for your money. I am a huge Clark Howard fan (I subscribe to his Podcast), and these ladies are cut from the same cloth as my buddy Clark! A great listen. You will learn a lot by tuning in.
~ Frugal Coupon Living - Ashley at Frugal Coupon Living is very unselfish when it comes to sharing her knowledge of coupons and that is why I wanted to recognize her and her terrific blog. She gets a great deal of satisfaction helping others and sharing her knowledge of how to use coupons the most effective way. Like my wife, she is a school teacher and I think that has alot to do with her “wanting to teach others” attitude. If the idea of clipping and organizing coupons seems very overwhelming to you, I recommend checking out Ashley’s blog. It will quickly teach you the best way to utilize coupons in your life. Her site has only been around since December, but in that short amount of time she has done alot to educate others. Nicely done Ashley.
As always, please feel free to add more sites that you find useful by leaving a commment!

Halloween Coupons: Trick or Treat…Just Don’t Smell My Feet
I just worked out on my elliptical machine and haven’t hopped in the shower yet. So my feet are kinda bio-hazards right now. Feel free to sniff away in about 15 minutes.
But I digress. The 3 children in my house are already getting really excited for Halloween. Reading Halloween books, asking daily when we are going to put out the Halloween decorations, thinking of costume accessories, and of course, drooling over all the candy in the stores right now.
I hope these Halloween coupons can help you save some money. I will keep this page updated until ‘Fright Night’.
