6 New Online Stores ALL with Coupons (Of, course!)
1 – Nine West.com
- I can’t really comment on NineWest, as I am, well, you know, a guy. So I asked my better half for her opinion. So straight from my wife’s mouth, “Good quality at an affordable price. Nice purses too.” Not sure I can add much more, but from looking at my wife’s closet, and all of the Nine West boxes piled up that I trip over occasionally, she really does like there shoes and boots. They also gave Rather-Be-Shopping.com a Nine West coupon for free shipping on your entire online order. Typically, they have a $50 threshold to get free delivery so this actually is a pretty good deal.

Now you can find Canon coupons here on Rather-Be-Shopping.com. The deals they send us are for free shipping and also up to $200 off specific SLR camera models. I own a small digital camera from Canon and it has been the best family camera we have ever owned. Also, check out Canon’s new line of printers, they have been getting some great reviews recently from Tech websites.

The 3 Best Laptops For Your Dollar
Are you shopping for a new laptop and completely overwhelmed by all the choices, features, and brands? It can be a fairly daunting task wading through all of the options and figuring out exactly what you need and at a price you can afford. The idea behind this post is to help you narrow down your search. So here at Rather-Be-Shopping.com, we have done some independent research for you and have found what we feel are the 3 best laptops for your dollar. We have listed all the features and have also found you the best price available.
#1 – Toshiba 17.3″ Satellite C675-S7200 Laptop PC with Intel Pentium B940 Processor and Windows 7 for $398
Major Features:
- 17.3″ LCD Widescreen Display
- 4GB DDR3 SDRAM system memory (expandable to 8GB)
- 320GB SATA Hard Drive
- Intel Pentium B940 processor, 2.0GHz, 2MB Cache
- 10/100 Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN
- DVD SuperMulti DVD Burner
Best Price: $398 at Walmart.com
Toshiba has been coming on strong in the laptop market for some time now. This unit is no exception, especially for the price of $398 (at Walmart.com). It features 4 GB of RAM (expandable to 8GB), if you are a college student, and plan on using a laptop for things like the Internet, email, Microsoft Office, Photoshop Elements, then this unit would serve you well at 4GB. If you start getting into more technical software and video editing, you would want to upgrade your RAM to 6GB or 8GB.
What I like best about this laptop is the 17.3″ screen, which is a really big screen and unheard of at this price point. The 320GB hard drive is plenty big as well, capable of holding 213,000 photos, 91,000 songs or 168 hours of HD video. Also, with external hard drives so cheap these days, you can always use an external HD for pictures and video if need be. Other bonus features include a built-in webcam and microphone, as well as a 8-in-1 memory card reader. This laptop is absolutely perfect for students and those looking to buy a quality laptop for under $400. If you buy from Walmart.com, make sure to use the ‘Free Ship to Store’ option so you don’t have to pay any shipping charges.
Best Price: $398 at Walmart.com
#2 – Dell Inspiron 15R laptop w/ 2nd Gen Intel Core i5, 8GB memory, 750GB, Windows Home Premium for $674.99
Major Features:
- 15.6″ HD LED Display (720p)
- 8GB DDR3 SDRAM system memory
- 750GB SATA Hard Drive
- 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ i5-2410M processor 2.30 GHz with Turbo Boost
- Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 1030, 1×2 bgn + Bluetooth
- 8X Tray Load CD/DVD Burner (Dual Layer DVD+/-R Drive)
- Intel HD Graphics/HD Graphics 3000 with up to 1.6GB Dynamic Video Memory
- Integrated 1.0 mega pixel widescreen HD Webcam
Best Price: $647.99 at Dell.com w/ Free Shipping
This Dell Home system makes our list because it really packs a strong punch for the buck. If you notice, almost all major features on this laptop are double that of the Toshiba unit. 8GB of RAM instead of 4, 750GB Hard Drive instead of 320, a significantly quicker processor with the Intel i5 running at 2.3 GHz, and also an excellent video card. So yes, it is more expensive, but what you get for the price makes it hard to beat. I would call this laptop a better fit for users wanting to do video editing and plan on having more that 2 or 3 programs running at the same time. The speedier processor and increased RAM will make those tasks a breeze.
Yes, the display is smaller than the Toshiba unit but the clarity is increased with the High-Def resolution. Although, at 720p it is not the true 1080p HD than has become the standard bearer, but unless you have a very good eye, you won’t notice the difference. Also, in researching this unit, we stumbled upon a Dell.com coupon code that will get you another $25 off, bringing your total price down to to the $647.99, make sure to use coupon code 4J4XPNDZ1PKR2B at checkout to get your discount. Every dollar counts.
Best Price: $647.99 at Dell.com w/ Free Shipping
#3 – Lenovo Laptop w/ AMD E-Series Processor / 15.6″ Display / 4GB Memory / 320GB Hard Drive for $299.99
Major Features:
- 15.6″ LED-backlit high-definition widescreen
- 4GB DDR3 memory (expandable to 8GB)
- 320GB Serial ATA hard drive
- AMD E-Series dual-core processor E-350
- Built-in wireless LAN (802.11b/g/n)
- Multiformat DVD±RW/CD-RW drive
Best Price: $299.99 at Best Buy.com
This Lenovo laptop is an excellent entry level system and stacks up nicely to the Toshiba unit listed above, but for $100 less. I was playing around with this system at our local Best Buy and it’s a pretty slick looking laptop. I also talked in depth to the sales associate and she claimed they had very few returns on this particular system and she couldn’t say enough good things about it. She even went so far as to compare it to much more expensive models and brands.
It does have a little smaller display than the Toshiba, but the trade off is it’s a high definition widescreen and also has a HDMI port that let’s you connect to your home TV and stream movies on the Internet and from Netflix. This is a very cool option, especially for a laptop priced under $300. Other neat features include a built-in fingerprint reader for sensitive documents, a built-in 0.3MP webcam, and a 6-in-1 media reader. Amazing features for a laptop that will cost you less than 2 cords of firewood.

5 Most Loved Companies in America
Some companies in the U.S. really have it figured out, they know how to get and keep happy customers. They do it with quality products that exceed customer’s expectations, and at the same time, offer excellent customer service. The Atlantic magazine recently rated the 19 most loved companies in America, they used information from the American Customer Satisfaction Index to rate them. Last week, I documented the ’5 Most Hated Companies in America’ and so I wanted to pay this one off with the ’5 Most Loved Companies in America’. Some of these companies will surprise you, at least they did me.
#1 – Lincoln
Wow, #1, I didn’t even know they were still making cars. I think if a company stays out of the news, doesn’t dump rusty bumpers in local streams, and offers above average customer service, they have the potential of stealing the heart’s of Americans. That is exactly what Lincoln did to grab the #1 spot on this list. In addition, they produce cars all grandparents envy. Although, their newest models are fairly technologically advanced, which most oldsters will have a problem with. So my guess is the clock on the DVD/GPS/iPod system will still be blinking 12:00 indefinitely.
#2 – Buick
Buick is doing many of the same things as Lincoln and have climbed out of obscurity to grab the #2 spot. The biggest reason profits are so high is due to sales within communist China. Buick is the #1 selling foreign car in China right now. My guess is because the Chinese love Tiger Woods and all of his Buick commercials. Even though Tiger and Buick parted ways in 2009, commercials most still be airing in China.
#3 – H.J. Heinz
The Atlantic says, “Founded in 1869, the Heinz brand has become a phenomenon through its ketchup.” Wow, now that is some amazing analysis. In a related story, McDonald’s has gained incredible popularity because of their tasty hamburgers. I think my 1st grader could have come up with a better description of Heinz than The Atlantic. But anyways, I think people love Heinz because their Ketchup is very yummy, they make that cool plastic bottle that you store upside down, and their green relish is very underrated. You give me a hotdog with Heinz ketchup and relish on it, maybe a cold beer, and I am one happy fat guy. Heinz also cares about the environment and waste reduction. Speaking of being a fat guy, I need to work on my waste reduction as well.
#4 – Amazon.com
Hats off to what Amazon.com has done over the years. They certainly did it their own way and it paid off big time for Jeff Bezos and crew. They sell everything under the sun, have great prices, offer excellent customer service with quick delivery, especially if your an Amazon Prime member (which I am). Also, due to their popularity, their product review section is really a great shopping tool. I read their customer generated reviews all the time, whether I am buying from them or not. There is nothing better than reading un-biased product reviews from people that actually own and use the product.
#5 – Mercedes Benz
Their cars are known for safety and durability. I have never owned a Benz before so I don’t have a lot of first-hand knowledge about their cars. The only thing I can really add is when I am driving around town and see someone in a Mercedes, they look pretty satisfied and quite happy with their own act. When I glare at them and they give me the finger I have absolutely no problem keying their car in the parking lot. Just kidding. But seriously, I don’t have anything to say about Mercedes that y’all don’t already know.
Any thoughts on these 5 companies that you would like to share? Feel free to tell us all about it. As always, I look forward to your comments.

Coupon of the Day: $10 Off at Books-A-Million.com

Expires 9/01/11
Side Note: We just added Books-A-Million.com to Rather-Be-Shopping.com. They offer great monthly coupons and have everyday free shipping on your $25 or more order. I often wonder exactly what one million books would look like. Do you think your home could hold a million books and still give you a small pathway from room to room? I’m guessing it would have to be a huge house, perhaps J.K. Rowling’s home could hold a million books. Although, if it was the 700 page Harry Potter door-stopper, it would probably only hold a couple dozen copies. But I digress. We are very proud to add Books-A-Million to our ever growing book category. Hope our coupons can help you save some money on your next page turner.
~ Check out all of our Books-A-Million coupons as we also have a coupon code for $20 off $100+ and free shipping.

The Gifting Trick You Must Use Before Wedding Bells Ring
This is a guest article by Odysseas Papadimitriou from Card Hub, a leading gift card marketplace where consumers can get discounted gift cards or set up a gift card registry.

No one needs two toasters. No one wants three blenders. Where would you even put four sets of silverware? Unfortunately, however, these are exactly the types of wedding gifts many couples are stuck with, while the big-ticket items they truly need—like refrigerators or bedroom sets—fall by the wayside due to high costs. Couples must therefore either endure the frustrating process of returns or simply make do with what they’re given. Luckily, a gift card registry is all that’s needed to make the most of wedding gifts.
Gift cards are the most popular gift of the holiday season for a reason; so why not give people what they want for their weddings as well? After all, the benefits of doing so include: no duplicate gifts, no exchanges, more valuable gifts since no money will be wasted on shipping costs, and less hassle overall for both the gift giver and the recipient.
Who needs hassle?
There’s enough stress and confusion swirling around weddings as it is. No one needs more, especially not from something like gifts, which should really be an unqualified perk. However, setting up a registry with every individual item you want is both time consuming and potentially a source of conflict within a couple.
While a gift card registry prevents this hassle, one might think it limits the options for people who would prefer not to get you a gift card. The opposite is true, however, as a gift card registry lets people know what your favorite stores are. In other words, even if the registry is not someone’s final destination for picking out a gift, it’s a good starting point.
Don’t think that because you’re getting gift cards you’ll automatically be stuck with a bunch of iTunes and Amazon cards either. Seemingly everyone from your favorite sporting goods store to your favorite restaurant to your airline or hotel of choice offers a gift card. Therefore, you aren’t missing out on gift variety by choosing to make use of a gift card wish list/registry; you are simply gaining flexibility.
Anyone up for better gifts?
Gift card wish lists result in better gifts for a number of reasons. First, they allow gift givers to attribute the entirety of their budget toward the present itself. Shipping for more traditional gifts often eats away at such a budget, but gift cards for the most part don’t have shipping costs. As a result, the value of a gift card will likely exceed that of any other present it replaces.
Second, you can put multiple gift cards toward a single big-ticket purchase. This gives you the freedom to buy large items that you really need but feel uncomfortable listing in a traditional registry. A bed is a lot to ask for as a single gift, for example, but add up the prices of a few traditional wedding gifts and you’d probably have enough to buy your own. So, you have a choice: Would you rather have some sterling silver candlesticks, decorative potholders and a set of china or somewhere nice to sleep? I know I’d at least like to have the choice.
What about the personal touch?
People often consider gift cards to be informal or impersonal and therefore not suited for a wedding gift. However, nowhere is it written that a gift card must be delivered in one of those tiny stock envelopes. Therefore, an easy way to add a personal touch to a gift card is to package it creatively. You could, for example, decorate a nice wooden keepsake box or deliver the card in a personalized picture frame. Either way, there are steps one can take to add sentiment and personality to a gift card.
A gift card registry therefore ultimately benefits both the gift giver and the recipient. It mitigates the stress gift givers feel in attempting to give the perfect gift because they know the recipient will end up with what he or she really wants. It also minimizes the hassle for both parties. No more running around from store to store; gift cards can be bought and redeemed online. No more awkward conversations about locating receipts because of unwanted or duplicate gifts. Thus, as wedding season continues, set up your gift card registries and make the most of your presents.
My Opinion: Kyle typing here. It has been over 12 years since my wife and I got married, but I think we may have considered this gift giving option. Although my biggest problem with it is the personalization factor. Yes, you could dress up a gift card in some clever way, but it just doesn’t stack up in terms of thoughtfulness. It often comes off as a last minute (sorry I forget to get you something real) gift. What are your thoughts? Please leave a comment.
Review & Giveaway: Paper Jamz Pro Mic
We have a winner! Congratulations to Andrea from Texas for winning the Paper Jamz Pro Mic and thanks to Paper Jamz for providing the prize! Look for more giveaways coming soon! Andrea, have fun singing ‘Life is Highway’ and remember to let your kids use it too….
A couple weeks ago the kind folks at Paper Jamz sent me and my 3 kids their full band set to test out and then to do a review and giveaway on Rather-Be-Shopping.com. Being a huge music geek I jumped all over the opportunity. The set included an electric guitar, the drum set, and the Pro Mic. It is an absolute blast!
Setup was very easy and within a couple minutes I had all 3 of my kids rocking out to the default songs that came with each instrument. Then I downloaded the Paper Jamz Pro app to my laptop and I was easily able to add a few of their favorite songs from my iTunes library to their instruments which they thought was REALLY cool! As you move your fingers up and down the fret board of the electric guitar, it actually sounds and reacts like a real guitar, it is really cool. This product is much better than the phony Guitar Hero and Rock Band products which take ZERO musical ability to master. The drums are also very cool and have a wide variety of possible sounds and drum beats. My kids have rocked out for many hours with their new toy. Hey Paper Jamz, my kids sincerely thank you for sending us these!
What my wife and I like best about the set is that all 3 instruments have technology that makes them sound like you are completely within the correct pitch and harmony with the song. As a parent, it actually made the songs bearable and even enjoyable to listen to. Specifically, the microphone corrects your pitch so you’re automatically in tune and adds dramatic effect to your voice to make you sound really cool. This is definitely not a loud and annoying toy, which to be honest, was my first concern. Rather it is a musical toy that will actually grow their love for music and spur on their creativity.
Giveaway Time! Listen up Rockers, time to GIVEAWAY the Paper Jamz Pro Microphone (Brand New) to one lucky reader! You will be singing along to your favorite songs before you know it. Here is all you have to do to enter the giveaway:
1- Just leave a comment at the bottom of this post with your favorite song that you would want to sing and you are officially entered to win the Paper Jamz Pro Mic. How easy is that! ($28 at Walmart.com)
2- Giveaway ends in 1 week on August 23rd at Midnight PST. At which point we will use Random.org to pick a winner. Must be 18 and a U.S. citizen to enter.

5 Most Hated Companies in America
There are some companies that make it SO easy for Americans to hate. Capitalism is a great thing and really leads to amazing innovation, but it isn’t always the case. The Atlantic magazine recently rated the 19 most hated companies in America, they used information from the American Customer Satisfaction Index to rate the best and the worst. Here is the infamous ’5 Most Hated Companies in America’ followed by some commentary be yours truly. Drum-roll please…….
#1 – PEPCO
No, this is not the Pepsi brewers, but rather Potomac Electric. I don’t know much about these guys since I live on the west coast but apparently they have more power outages than Dick Cheney’s heart. I interviewed a PEPCO customer recently, “If your a PEPCO customer and you come home from work to electricity in your home, it’s deemed a good day, even if you got fired that day.” Enough said.
#2 – Delta Airlines
I guess charging more for checked luggage than what it costs to buy a new 6-piece Samsonite set was not a good business decision. Then be rude about it. Yeah, I am thinking that will easily get you to #2. In 2010, Delta collected more than $952 million in baggage fees, almost twice as much as any other airline carrier. Those darn pesky facts will hurt you every time. Only one thing worse than flying Delta – working your way through airport security behind a guy with a horrible foot odor problem.
#3 – Time Warner Cable
According to The Atlantic, “Recently it (Time Warner Cable) also aired pornography on children’s channels.” OK, so I don’t care about all the “faster than inflation” rate increases, or the fraudulent business acts, but how can you let ‘Debbie Does Dallas’ slip into an episode of ‘Dora the Explorer’?
#4 – Comcast
If you can handle waiting on the phone for 37 minutes, you will then be given the opportunity to explain that your cable bill is wrong to someone who speaks broken English. COOL, where do I sign up!!
#5 – Charter Communications
Ironically, Charter has many of the same problems as Comcast. Non-English speaking phone centers, billing system designed by kindergartners, and field technicians that make Fred Flintstone, and his good buddy Barney, seem like a good alternative. Since misery loves company I say we find a deserted island for both companies and ship them away for good. Then we will make them order Dish Network since there is no cable service available on the island. By the way, how did Dish Network not make the top 5? Don’t get me started with these incompetent fools.
Any “special” experiences with these 5 companies that you would like to share? Feel free to vent as you see fit. I look forward to your comments. Look for the ‘Top 5 Most Loved’ companies in America coming later this week.

Coupon of the Day: $10 Off at Sports Authority.com
Save $10 off $75+ online order, Coupon Code: AUG11TSA10
Expires 8/31/11
Side Note: I am a big fan of The Sports Authority, mainly because of their customer service. Whenever I go into our local Sports Authority I am received and treated like King James himself. You have to be careful because their prices can be higher for certain items. Heck, they have to pay their employees. They actually offer a good wage and I think that translates into friendlier and a more informed customer service staff. I mentioned earlier in the year that Santa Claus (errr….me) had a great experience with a non-functioning Air Hockey table. If you are looking for some great bargains, check out their online ‘Clearance’ department for some great deals on sporting goods and athletic apparel. Or you can wander into your local Walmart sporting goods department and set up camp for 3 days and 4 nights before you get any assistance.
~ Check out all of our Sports Authority coupons as we also have a coupon code for $25 off $150+ and $50 off your $300+ order.
