The 5 Best Fast Food Deals This Fall

September 28, 2011 · Filed Under , · Comment

OK, I’ll admit it, I love fast food. The more it gleams the more my taste buds go absolutely crazy. With the exception of McDonald’s, many fast food restaurants are actually struggling with sales right now. This has forced them to cut costs even more and offer great promotion and value items to entice customers. This begs the question where are they going to cut costs when they are already selling burritos for $.99 and cheeseburgers for $1? What kind of meat are they putting in these things and who are they hiring to prepare it for you? Nonetheless, I still love fast food way more than I should. It is with this in mind that I present the 5 best fast food deals for this Fall.

Burger King – $6.99 Meal for 2 People

BK Value Meal

For $6.99 you get 2 Whoppers, 2 small fries, and 2 small drinks. That’s $3.50 a piece, what a major deal. Now you and your significant other can go to BK and get coronary heart disease together, how romantic. Also, if you ask the attendant, they will give you a free ice cream cone with any value meal. Yum, I could eat soft serve ice cream every night. Sure, I would need a forklift to eventually get me out of the house, but it might just be worth it.

Taco Bell – $.99 Chicken Flat Bread Sandwich

Taco Bell Sandwich

I absolutely love Taco Bell, but this one scares me a little bit. I am terrified to eat food that costs less than $1. They have to be cutting corners somewhere, and I am bit nervous to find out where. Whenever I hit the Taco Bell drive thru I tend to splurge for the chicken taco salad or burrito supreme. When I was a teenager I would get the 10 taco box and down the whole thing in one sitting! Aww, the good ol’ days.

Pizza Hut – $10 Any Pizza Deal

Artisan Pizza

$10 for any pizza, any size, and any toppings. Awesome! This is a pretty good deal as it includes all of their pizzas, some of which normally sell closer to the $20 range. For a family on the go, this is a pretty inexpensive option a couple times per month. Their deep dish pizzas are pretty darn tasty, and now for only $10, I may be hitting ‘The Hut’ really, really soon.

Domino’s Pizza – $7.99 for Large Artisan Pizza

Enter Promotion Code

Wow, only $7.99 for a large. This is actually cheaper than when I was college over 15 years ago. Back then I could have really used this deal. Oh wait, never mind, that probably would have the worst thing that ever happened to me. Their Artisan pizzas include the spinach & feta, Italian sausage & pepper trio, and Tuscan salami & roasted veggie. Those sound really good. I have to applaud Domino’s on their recent resurgence in the pizza market. Their commercials and ad campaigns are excellent and they are seeing the positive results.

Subway – $5 Footlongs

Subway Footlongs

By far the healthiest option on this list, Subway brings back their $5 footlong promotion this fall. Great grub at a great price. My only suggestion for Subway is to please create a new song for the $5 promotion as the last one was hideous. Oh, and feel free to get rid of Jared as well.

Have you taken advantage of any of these offers yet? If so, please let us know how it tasted. I’m off to get something to eat, then I need to clean my keyboard. Hey, don’t laugh, you try and write a post like this and not drool all over your keyboard.

3 Quick & Obscenely Easy Money Saving Tips

September 20, 2011 · Filed Under , · 2 Comments

All money saving tips don’t have to be a pain in the butt. Some are actually really easy and only require a little bit of time. My 3 tips WILL NOT include selling your car and start riding your skateboard to work like Marty McFly. You also won’t hear anything about brewing your own coffee, I think everybody on Earth already knows this is much cheaper than a $4 milkshake from Starbuck’s. Instead, I am hoping at least 2 of these tips are new to you.

Lower Your Bills

Lower Your DishNetwork bill

Do you have expensive cable or satellite TV? Or perhaps a DSL subscription you would like to lower? Here is an easy tip to lower all of these bills in 15 minutes. Just call up their customer service department and say you want to cancel because it is just too expensive. They don’t want to lose your business and will do darn near anything to keep you as a loyal customer. I have personally done this and received $15 off my Dish Network bill for 1 year, and the introductory DSL rate of $19.99 per month for 2 years. It took all of 10 minutes to do both and I saved $25 per month and $300 for the year. Easy money.

Save on Food

Safeway Receipt

Never grocery shop when you are hungry, you’ll buy less junk food. Also, go to the grocery store when you are in a hurry and have limited time to spend, you will waste less time meandering the frozen dessert aisle buying junk. Always shop with a list, it will keep you on track. Buy bulk items and non-perishables when they are on sale. They last forever and can be easily stored in the pantry. Buy chicken when it’s on sale and store it in the freezer. It does not get freezer burnt, and stores really well. Also, learn to cook more than you need and use the leftovers for lunch the next day or freeze it for another meal down the road. These tips are really easy to follow and can save you at the very least $50 a month. It saves my family over $1,000 a year.

Use Online Promotion Codes

This tip may seem a bit biased, but saving money using online coupons and promotional codes couldn’t be easier. It still amazes me how many people I run into that don’t know about online coupon codes and fail to notice the coupon code box when checking out from online retailers. Here are some of the more popular coupon offers on Rather-Be-Shopping.com right now. Happy saving!

Use Ship-to-Store and Save Money

September 14, 2011 · Filed Under , · Comment

Today I wanted to share an online shopping tip that can really save you money. Did you know that many big online stores are now offering a FREE ship-to-store feature which allows you to shop online then pick up your purchase at your local store for free? From talking to fellow online shoppers and Rather-Be-Shopping.com users, free ship-to-store is one of the top online shopping trends for 2011. Now you might be asking yourself, so what, why is that so great, I still have to go get it? Here are 3 ways ship-to-store can save you money:

Online Coupons

The biggest reason ship-to-store is a good idea is online coupons. For instance almost all of the coupons on Rather-Be-Shopping are for online use only. Unfortunately, you can’t print them off and go shopping at your local Home Depot. So by using ship-to-store, you can still take advantage of the online coupon code and then just pick it up at your local brick & mortar location. Easy money!

No Shipping Costs

With the price of gas hovering around $4 a gallon don’t expect shipping costs to do anything but go up. Ship-to-store totally eliminates shipping costs. Now yes, you still have to drive to the store to pick up your order (which obviously uses gas), so I would suggest picking up your order when you are running errands and going to be in that area of town anyways. In other words, don’t make a special trip to pick-up your item if you can avoid it.

Easily Price Compare

The Internet is an incredible shopping tool. The price comparison websites and review websites really help you make informed buying decisions. These tools are not easily accessible when you are at your local mall. So by staying home and using the ship-to-store option you can really shop smart and save.

Here are 6 online stores that offer Free Ship-to-Store:

1 – Sears.com

Sears not only offers free ship-to-store, but they will actually pay you $5 if you have to wait more than 5 minutes for them to grab your order. Great customer service from Sears. Just bring in your email confirmation, and receive your purchase in five minutes. Very cool!

2 – Best Buy.com

I personally use Best Buy’s store pick-up all the time and love it. When I get to the store I am literally back in my car within 2 minutes. My order has always been sitting their waiting for me and it couldn’t be easier. Usually my order is ready for pick-up within a couple hours. Also, it is worth noting that many Best Buy locations have Curbside Service “where a sales associate will bring your order out to you. If your selected store has this service, a message will appear in your cart.” As is the case with all ship-to-store options, make sure to bring in your email confirmation, ID, and the credit card you used to make your purchase.

3 – Walmart.com

Walmart started their site-to-store feature a few months ago and it has been well received. From their website, “Walmart offers tens of thousands of products online that are eligible for Site to Store – including furniture, electronics, tires, baby gear and exercise equipment – many of which are not regularly available in our stores.” Speaking of buying furniture and exercise equipment, always check if the retailer offers free ship-to-store because the shipping costs on large items often makes it cost prohibited to order online.

4 – Home Depot.com

The Home Depot’s ‘Pick Up In Store’ feature not only saves you shipping charges but also helps you speed up any time-sensitive projects. In other words, if you are installing a new sink and you see the one you want online, pick this option and you will be washing your hands in it tonight. When you arrive at your local Home Depot, go directly to the Special Service desk (or Pro desk if you’re a contractor) and they will help you with your order and get you back to work quickly.

5 – Lowe’s.com

When checking out from the Lowe’s website, look for the “Pick Up In Store — Free” option and select it. Your order will then be ready for you to pick up, almost instantly. Just bring in your email receipt and they will get you in and out quickly. Again, this option is great for large items that would cost you an arm & leg to ship. Also, make sure to take advantage of Lowe’s online only sales and then select the Pick Up In Store option. This way you will actually get a better price then if you went in and shopped at your local Lowe’s.

6 – Lands’ End.com

This one is a little different than the other 5 listed above. It has to do with returns. Did you know that you can return your online Lands’ End order to your local Sears store for free? Why you ask? Well, back in 2002, Sears actually bought Lands’ End for 2 billion dollars. Lands’ End charges a flat $6.50 return fee, so by returning to your local Sears store you completely wipe out that fee. Thanks to Brenda for telling me about this one. Pretty cool.

Coupon of the Day: Free Shipping at NFL Store.com

September 9, 2011 · Filed Under · Comment

Free Shipping on your ENTIRE online order, Coupon Code: NFLFS11

Expires 9/12/11

Kohl's homepage

Side Note:

Wow, that was a strong way to start the 2011 campaign last night. Packers vs. Saints coming right down to the last play of the game to decide the winner. Holy smokes. I am very excited for NFL football to start up this weekend. Living in northern California I have been a life-long 49er fan dating all the way back to “The Catch” in 1981. Although we have had some lean years recently, I truly believe Jim Harbaugh can turn it around. Do you like how I used the word “we”? As if I am somehow employed by the Niners or the long snapper on the practice squad. I have to constantly remind myself that the word fan is derived from fanatic. Definitely don’t want to cross over that line. Although, if my Niners make a playoff run this year I just might paint my face red and gold and go completely fanatical on your ass.

Coupon of the Day: 20% Off at Kohl’s.com

September 7, 2011 · Filed Under · Comment

Save 20% off your entire online order, Coupon Code: TWENTY4ME

Kohl's homepage

Expires 9/11/11

Side Note: OK, now this is weird. According to the current screenshot at Kohl’s.com (above), they are still having their Labor Day sale for some strange reason. I’ve heard of stores breaking out Halloween decorations the day after Labor Day, and some retailers breaking out fake plastic Christmas trees on October 1st, but I have never heard of a store continuing a sale after the holiday has come and gone. It would be like Walmart having their Christmas Sale through January 15th. Or CVS continuing their Valentine’s Day sale through March 1st. Kind of a head scratcher for me. But to quote Yogi, “I’m not the average bear”, or did he say “I’m smarter than the average bear?” Oh well, you get my point. But the good news is this 20% off coupon code is definitely better than the average Kohl’s.com coupon. Hope you can take advantage of it before the clock strikes midnight on September 11th.

~ Check out all of our Kohl’s coupons as we also have a coupon for free shipping on $75 or more.

12 Bad-Ass Blogs That Will Improve Your Life

September 1, 2011 · Filed Under , , · 3 Comments

1 – Lifehacker.com (Bad-Ass Meter 9/10)

- Lifehacker reminds me of Costco. They have a lot of stuff you didn’t know you needed but clearly cannot live without. Like the picture below. Who knew you could use an old tennis ball to open your dam jars that seem to be welded closed. Now if I could just pry our only tennis ball out of our golden retriever’s mouth I will give this life hack a try. But I am thinking the drool will make my hand slip. Which brings me to a new life hack. Dog owner’s, always use a kitchen towel to cover the drooly tennis ball before opening your next jar. Lifehacker.com, you can have that one for free.

2 – Help Save My Dollars.com (Bad-Ass Meter 9/10)

- When it comes to helping college students save money, Scott Gamm is a total bad-ass. Whether it be tips on finding the best student loans, cheapest textbooks, or best student credit cards, Help Save My Dollars.com has you covered. What makes his blog stand out? Well, the fact that he is an actual college student brings a high level of real world experience to his advice. He is out on the front lines and has tips that actually work. Don’t let his 12 year-old looks fool you either, Scott knows his stuff. I kid Scott! His many appearances on MSNBC, Today Show, and Fox News are evidence to that.

3 – Mashable.com (Bad-Ass Meter 10/10)

- Whenever I hear the word Mashable, I think gravy and stuffing. Is there an app for that? But Mashable specializes in bringing to the attention of us lesser folks some really cool gadgets, tech tools, and social media goodies. And they’re really good at it. If you are a techie you need to be reading Mashable. Otherwise, how in the world would you know that Blondie is Set to Release their New Album exclusively through Amazon.com. Or that Netflix is raising prices. Dam, Netflix, why have you forsaken me.

4 – MSN Smart Spending.com (Bad-Ass Meter 9/10)

- Big fan of spending your money smartly. Hover car, Fiji water, anything from the Hammacher Schlemmer catalog need not apply.  Also, never buy a wooden iPad in the Walmart parking lot. But I digress. The best part about MSN Smart Spending is the blog posts from Donna Freedman. I’ve had the distinct pleasure to be interviewed by Donna on a couple occasions and her professionalism and attention to detail are worth noting. She blogs about surviving and thriving on less, as well as tips on finding the best deals online and off. A true bad-ass.

5 – Wisebread.com (Bad-Ass Meter 9.5/10)

- Wise Bread will make you a bad-ass, one post at a time. If you become an active reader you will be the envy of your friends and will be able to wow them regularly with your new knowledge. The variety at Wise Bread absolutely cracks me up. For example, you will learn 25 Alternative Uses for Lemons, How to Avoid (and Treat) Cold Sores, as well The Worst Investments You Can Make. OK, Wise Bread I need to see a post in the next couple months titled, ’10 Investments that are Lemons and May Give You Cold Sores If you Suck on Them’.  OK…it’s a working title. But I guarantee I would read it.

6 – Parent Hacks.com (Bad-Ass Meter 9/10)

- Hey parents, who doesn’t need some solid parenting tips every once in a while? Can I get an ‘Amen’? I sure could have used one this morning when I had 3 kids who couldn’t agree on anything. I was so close to throwing them out in the street in their under-roos and Dora the Explorer nightgown it wasn’t even funny. I have used Asha’s blog several times over the past few years to find some juicy parenting tidbits.  A couple of my all-time favorite posts include Baking soda deodorizes a mattress after a stomach flu disaster (aka vomit), What to say if your kid finds one of her presents before it’s wrapped, and my all-time favorite bad-ass parenting hack Peanut butter spoon as a substitute for thumbsucking. This so worked for my wife and I. On our kid that is, my wife and I don’t suck our thumbs (anymore). Ummm, Jif.

7 – Money Saving Mom.com (Bad-Ass Meter 9/10)

- I’m not a money saving Mom, per say, we’ll actually not at all. But I am definitely a money saving Dad and have used Crystal’s blog frequently to find a printable store coupon or a restaurant coupon when taking my family out for dinner. Also, if you’re interested in Becoming a Work-At-Home Mom you will enjoy the Money Saving Mom blog. Part of becoming a bad-ass is learning how to stretch your hard-earned dollars as far as possible and that is one thing this blog will help you do.

8 – TechSaver.com (Bad-Ass Meter 8/10)

- When looking to make any electronics or technology purchase be sure to check Tech Saver first. They have a bunch of coupons to save money on computers, HDTV’s, laptops, and much more stuff like that. Wow, powerful description, huh? But the bottom-line is you will clearly be a bad-ass when you save more money than your friends on your next purchase. Or better yet, when you read a review on a product that helps you in your buying decision. Knowledge is power my friends and Tech Saver will make you seem as knowledgeable as Albert Einstein in a kindergarten classroom.

9 – Smart Money.com (Bad-Ass Meter 9/10)

- When it comes to investing and financial advice, Smart Money.com is a great stop. Their articles always make me feel smarter when I’m done. Their advice is always written for someone who has NOT recently graduated from the New York School of Business. Which is very refreshing. Some of my favorite posts include 10 Reasons I’m Cancelling My Credit Cards and 4 Reasons Your Retirement Is Nothing Like Mom’s. My retirement is nothing like my Mom’s because I don’t stash a coffee can with cash in the back of the freezer. My can has frozen Snickers in it so my kids won’t sniff them out like a bunch of hound dogs.

10 – Get Rich Slowly.com (Bad-Ass Meter 9/10)

- I have been reading J.D.’s blog since I was knee high to a grasshopper.  This guy taught me the importance of getting and staying out of debt and what a total bad-ass it will make you feel like.  I realized the goal of being debt free back in 2007 and I gotta say, Chuck Norris had nothing on me. It really can be done and the archives at Get Rich Slowly can show you how to do it. Some of my all time favorites include How to Get Out of Debt, 9 Methods for Mastering Your Money, and Daily Links: Money Saving Tips Edition. The last post was when J.D. mentioned Rather-Be-Shopping.com back in 2008. Bad. Ass.

11 – Consumer Reports Blog.com (Bad-Ass Meter 9.3/10)

- I have fond memories of going to our local library with my Mom and looking at the latest Consumer Reports trying to figure out which washing machine to buy. Good times. Although, I was always so disappointed they didn’t carry Playboy in the periodical section. Anyways, Consumer Reports has always been a highly trusted and unbiased resource for consumers and their online blog continues that tradition. On the blog, they answer puzzling questions like Why do mattresses go on sale on a day that celebrates work? and of the course, Gifts that’ll make Dad a happy camper—even at home. To anybody reading this who has a Dad who is not taking a dirt nap, please read this post and seer it to memory. Thanks!

12 – Motherlode.com (Bad-Ass Meter 9/10)

- The tagline on Lisa’s blog is ‘Adventures in Parenting’. That pretty much sums up my life right now. 3 kids, a mortgage, stained carpets, more toothbrushes than kids (for some reason), and more hilarious stories than you can imagine. Motherlode is such a gem because of the writing style. I call it fun, yet serious. Some of the posts which hit home with me include Are Parents Too Involved in Children’s Sports?, Calling Mr. Mom, and Finding Time for Hobbies After Baby.  Motherlode understands the true essence of being a parent, from both the Mom and Dad’s perspective, which I REALLY appreciate. Go check it out today, I think you will bookmark it.

- Any bad-ass blogs you want to add to this post? Please leave a comment and let everyone know about it.
