I have been a fan of what Fanny has been doing with her blog for a couple years now. I even had the cool opportunity to contribute recently to her Work at Home Series: Kyle from Rather-Be-Shopping.com where I talked about how I started Rather-Be-Shopping.com and the challenges of working from a home office. So it was cool when she was gracious enough to take some time to participate in my Blog Spotlight series where I take a blog or site that I like and introduce it to you in a fun interview format. Now on to the interview…

10 Questions With Fanny of Living Richly on a Budget.com

Q: Describe your blog in 5 sentences or less?
Fanny: The goal of Living Richly on a Budget is to find smart ways to save money while living a rich and fulfilling life.

Q: What makes your blog different from all the rest?
Fanny: My blog chronicles my journey with successes, struggles, and failures along the way to finding financial freedom.

Q: What would I be surprised to find in your refrigerator right now?
Fanny: Goat milk, oyster sauce, and fish sauce. Sounds like a weird combo, right? My daughter is dairy-free right now and we cook a lot of Asian food.

Q: If you were deserted on a desert island and could pick one music CD to bring, what would it be? (assuming you had a CD player and electricity )
Fanny: I would cheat and bring a mixed CD compilation of my favorite songs!

Q: When and why did you first start blogging?
Fanny: I started blogging around 2004 or earlier on Xanga. It was a fun way to journal about my life. Then I had a food blog called YummySF and was active on SavingAdvice.com before starting this blog.

Q: What post on your blog best depicts the essence of you?
Fanny: That would be 35 Extreme Couponing Tips – I worked in search engine optimization (SEO) before starting this blog. One of the tips I learned was to create a 30+ tips post. It’s an example of me learning something and challenging myself to put it into action. It is a popular post because the info is still useful and relevant.

Q: What blog or website influenced you the most when you started?
Fanny: I read ChristianPF.com, MoneyNing, and MyMoneyBlog before I started my blog. They consistently posted helpful, insightful articles.

Q: Who would play you in a movie about your life, and why?
Fanny: Lisa Loeb – People have told me that I look like her even to the point of calling me Fanny Loeb. She is an amazing entrepreneur – singer, songwriter, eyewear designer, etc. And I got to meet her in person too which was a dream come true.

Q: When it comes to blogging, what is your biggest pet peeve?
Fanny: My biggest pet peeve is not having a lot of time to work on my blog because I take care of my 2 1/2 year old daughter full-time.

Q: What is your favorite breakfast cereal and why?
Fanny: I don’t eat a lot of cereal anymore but when I do, it’s Nature’s Path Cornflakes because it’s gluten-free, natural, and not super sweet.

I totally forgot about Xanga! I suppose that was my first experience blogging as well. Those things were so popular back in the day.
