Target’s 4-Year Break With Amazon is Over

Four years ago, Target said goodbye to Amazon products like the popular Kindle reader. Most figured it was because Amazon poised a competitive threat to Target. Made sense to me at the time. After all, it would kind of be like Walmart.com selling a 1-year membership to Amazon Prime. Well, maybe that’s a stretch, but you get my point.

So it came as a bit of a surprise when Target recently announced that they were bringing back Amazon products like the Kindle and Fire TV to nearly 1,800 stores nationwide. The Amazon products will roll out on Target shelves starting on October 9th, 2016, just in time for the holiday rush. You can actually already find the Amazon Kindle and Fire TV on the Target website.

A bit of a head-scratcher as Amazon has taken a large chunk of Target’s business in recent years. When asked about the move, they responded, “Target continually evaluates our assortment to deliver quality products at a great value. We know our guests love the many aspects of shopping at Target and believe they will appreciate the convenience and savings of finding these items in our stores and on Target.com.”

It’s fairly obvious that Target was worried about shoppers moving towards Amazon, so they pulled their products four years ago. Then shoppers moved towards Amazon anyways and Target figured they might as well sell a few Amazon products as a convenience to their shoppers. Boom. End of story.
