Target recently announced their holiday plans and this year they include a very attractive free shipping offer that undoubtedly got the attention of the folks at Amazon. But that’s not all as they also unveiled some really cool smartphone technology that’ll allow you to stay in your car and have items brought to you. Here’s everything you need to know.
Target Offering Free 2-Day Shipping
Starting on November 1st, Target will offer free 2-day shipping on all online purchases through December 22nd.
In a clear attempt to compete with Amazon, there’s NO membership fee or extra cost associated with the free 2-day shipping offer.
I found December 22nd to be an interesting cutoff date and wonder if you’ll be able to order on the 22nd and get items delivered by Christmas Eve.
Logistically this might be difficult as the 23rd falls on a Sunday this year.
Stay In Your Car and Use “Drive Up”
Target is also unveiling a Drive-Up Service at 1,000 locations.
It works by ordering via the Target app, then an employee brings the item out to your car typically within an hour.
Simply choose Drive Up when checking out on the app and wait for the “Order Ready” notification on your smartphone.
When you pull into the parking lot, look for the designated Drive Up parking spots located near the stores entrance.
You’ll then use the Target app to let store employees know you’ve arrived and they’ll bring the item(s) out to you.
Once they get to your car, they’ll simply scan the barcode on your phone and send you on your way.
Other Stores Offering Free 2-Day Shipping
The following notable retailers are also trying to compete with Amazon.
Walmart also offers free 2-day shipping on millions of items with 1 caveat…
You have to spend at least $35 to qualify. Not a huge deal buy it does requires you to combine smaller purchases to score free 2-day shipping.
Members of the MyBestBuy Elite Plus club qualify for free 2-day shipping with no minimum order required.
To qualify for this membership level you have to spend at least $3,500 in a single calendar year.
Walmart owned Jet.com also offers free 2-day shipping “on thousands of everyday essentials”.
If your purchase is not one of these “everyday essentials” you’ll get free 3-5 shipping on orders of $35 or more.
Ask the Reader: Where do you plan on doing most of your Christmas shopping this year? Will you give Target.com a look since they’re offering free 2-day shipping?
