Jersey Mike’s Secret Menu: Take Your Sub Game to a Whole New Level

There was a Jersey Mike’s location in my town for several years before I stumbled in for lunch one day last year. Now I’ll drive out of my way to grab one of their delicious subs with freshly sliced meats and VERY fresh veggies. I was grabbing a sandwich a couple weeks ago and the guy in front of my ordered a “sweet pepper wrap” for his wife from their secret menu and it got me very intrigued as to what else might be on their “not-so-secret” secret menu. So after a bunch of digging, and talking to a couple employees, I have the start of a cool little resource for Jersey Mike’s fans that I hope will grow with your input. Here’s what I know so far about the Jersey Mike’s secret menu.

Jersey Mike's Secret Menu: Take Your Sub Game to a Whole New Level

FYI, some of these subs are on Jersey Mike’s online menu but NOT the in-store menu as they don’t have room for them on the wall or menu.

This means most employees are trained how to make them, but for whatever reason (popularity probably) they don’t get ordered much, but they DEFINITELY should.

The Meateor

Love the name of this bad boy and it seems like a fun thing to order.

Specifically, the Meateor sub includes ALL the meats that Jersey Mike’s slices, plus cheese and all the veggies you want.

These meats include bacon, prosciuttini, ham, salami, pepperoni, roast beef, turkey, and capicola.

Has anyone ordered this? I’m wondering what it would cost as Jersey Mike’s is probably gonna charge you for all the add-ons.

Surf ‘n Turf

Not sure about this one, but apparently it’s quite popular.

To get the Surf ‘n Turf, ask for a sub with both tuna and roast beef.

Some eaters also say to get Swiss cheese on it for a perfect “land and sea” mash-up.

I think I’ll need to try this one before I comment any further.

The Martian

Not sure if this is Matt Damon’s favorite sub, but it should be as the “Martian” has grown quite popular on the Jersey Mike’s secret menu.

Named the Martian because of all of the red ingredients, it comes with pepperoni and ham as the meats, then top with your favorite cheese and veggies and you’re good to go.

You got to have tomatoes on it too if you really want it to be a sub in honor of the red planet.

The BLT

Wait, what? Jersey Mike’s does not have a BLT on the regular menu? That’s nuts.

Order the BLT and you’ll get the classic sub with bacon, lettuce, and tomato, then add mayo.

Don’t let them be stingy on the bacon or you’ll end up with a sandwich that only weights a couple ounces.

Trust me on this one as my daughter ordered a BLT and there wasn’t nearly enough bacon on it to justify the price.

Big Kahuna Cheese Steak with Chipotle Mayo

I ordered this bad but the other day and I’m still savoring every bite in my mind. It’s a GREAT sub.

I simply asked them to include everything that’s on the Chipotle Cheese Steak along with everything on the Big Kahuna Cheese Steak.

The finished sub was nothing short of amazing, trust me on this one, especially if you like cheesesteaks.

Lumberjack Salad

I love a good salad, so I decided to try the Lumberjack when I visited Jersey Mike’s last week and it was AMAZING.

To make it happen I started by ordering the Club Supreme in a tub whiteout the bread and EXTRA shredded lettuce.

Then have them substitute prosciuttini for the turkey and drizzle on some spicy mustard.

So basically it’s a meat salad with lettuce, tomato, swiss cheese, roast beef, prosciuttini, Applewood bacon, and topped with spicy mustard or chipotle mayo (your choice).

The Chick-Fila-Roni

This one sounds incredible.

If your sandwich maker doesn’t know this one, ask for the Philly Cheesesteak Sub, but substitute chicken for beef.

Then to get the “Roni”, ask for grilled pepperoni on top and whatever veggies and cheese you want.

Then to take it to the next level, top it with some marinara or chipotle mayo.

Sweet Pepper Wrap

This wrap is an excellent choice for vegetarians.

To make it happen start with a tomato basil tortilla wrap, then add grilled sweet bell peppers, white onion, lettuce, then banana peppers.

But don’t let the goodness stop there, ask them to top it with cherry pepper relish, chipotle mayo, and then melted white American cheese.

Sounds pretty darn good.

R&R Special

If you’re like me, and you LOVE a good Reuben, the R&R is right up your alley.

For those with their head in the sand, a normal Reuben is pastrami, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and Russian dressing.

Order the R&R and they’ll swap the pastrami with corned beef, and the sauerkraut with coleslaw.

They’ll still top this bad boy with Swiss cheese and Russian dressing and heat it up on the grill. Enjoy.

California Chicken Cheesesteak

As you might have guessed, this is a chicken cheesesteak served hot with tomatoes, lettuce, and mayo (get the Chipotle mayo for an extra kick).

They call it “California” because it doesn’t come with the grilled onions and peppers, but feel free to add them, and you definitely SHOULD add them.

Update: I ordered this last week and added the grilled onions and peppers and it was the BEST hot sub I’ve had in a really long time.

It was gooey, incredibly flavorful, and because it was chicken, and not steak, it wasn’t super greasy.

Sub In a Tub

If you’re going low carb, high protein, the “Sub In a Tub” is a solid choice.

It’s basically a salad sandwich that they put in a plastic container with everything but the bread.

You’re free to add ANY veggies, meat, or cheese that you want to make it yours.

Pepperoni Pizza Sub

To get this yummy creation just ask for a #3 but substitute the ham for pepperoni.

Also, ask for marinara sauce and have it thrown on the grill for a gooey, yummy pizza sub.

A shortcut is to ask for a “#3 with marinara sauce on the bottom bread, and pepperoni instead of ham.”

Try it on the Rosemary Parmesan bread for an Italian treat.

Cancro Special

Named after the founder, Mike Cancro, this sub is simply roast beef and pepperoni with whatever toppings you want.

Sounds like a strange mashup, but it’s developed a bit of a cult following over the years and people swear by it’s deliciousness.

BBQ Beef Sub

In honor of my current favorite TV show, The Bear, I had to add the beef sandwich, even if it isn’t the classic Italian beef sandwich.

Your mileage may vary on this one as the Jersey Mike’s location has to have BBQ sauce on hand to make it correctly.

It consists of roast beef thrown on the grill and cooked with BBQ sauce, then top it off with your favorite cheese and toppings.

Ask the Reader: I’m really hungry now, so help me out. What secret menu items at Jersey Mike’s am I missing? Let me know in the comments and I’ll check them out.

Target Military Discount: A Nice Way To Save…Just Not Everyday (Plus Brand Exclusions)

Updated March 13, 2024 by Kyle James

While the Target military discount is a nice gesture, it’s pretty darn limiting as you can only use it for a short amount of time every year, you can only use it twice, and the list of excluded brands is significant. But that doesn’t mean you should ignore it, and if you’re a vet, or active duty military member, you should definitely take advantage of it. Here’s EVERYTHING you need to know so you can save some cash shopping at Target.

Target Military Discount: A Nice Way To Save...Just Not Everyday

Does Target Actually Have a Military Discount?

Yes, 10% to be exact.

Even though I write about military discounts all the time, I was today years old when I discovered Target has one as well.

It’s probably because the Target discount is very specific on when it can be used and how often.

Let’s break it all down…

Is the 10% Discount Available 365 Days a Year?

No.

Unfortunately, Target only makes their military discount available around Veteran’s Day and the 4th of July every year and they limit you to 2 qualifying storewide purchases each time period.

In other words, you get to use your 10% discount on 4 purchases per year.

The next opportunity to use the discount is between 10/29/23 – 11/11/23 and you can only use it TWICE in that time period.

See Also: The Target Teacher Discount: A Clever Way for Educators to Save

Is it 10% Off 1 Item or My Entire Order?

The discount is good for your entire order.

So the takeaway here is to only make your purchase when you have a bunch of items to purchase as the more you buy, the more you save.

Who’s Eligible for the Military Discount?

This is where their discount gets kinda awesome.

Active military, reservists, and veterans are ALL eligible.

The discount is also good for either one dependent -OR- one family member.

Target uses the online service SheerID to verify your military status.

So…How Do I Make It Happen?

The first thing you have to do is Sign-in, or Create a new Target account.

Then in the Settings section, you’ll see the link for Military verification.

Next, after you click on Military verification, you’ll be sent to the page where you select whether you’re a Service member or Dependent.

Then once you click Continue, you’ll be taken to the page where you’ll actually enter your military service information.

The information you’ll need to enter includes the following:

– Military Status – The 3 options includes active duty, reservist, or veteran. Veterans will have to enter their discharge month and year.

– Branch of Service – You’ll have 14 branches of service to select from.

– First and Last Name

– Birthday

Once you’re successfully verified, you’ll be sent to a “Congratulations Screen” telling you that you’re good-to-go.

If you don’t get the congrats message, you’ll typically be sent to a page asking you to upload additional documentation.

How Do I Get the Discount When Checking Out In-Store?

You’ll need to bring your smartphone, with the Target app open, and show the employee at the checkout register the 10% coupon barcode to collect your savings.

How Do I Use the Discount When Shopping Online?

Once you’ve been verified, you’ll see the option to add your 10% discount to your purchase when checking out via the Target app or on Target.com directly.

Is There A Maximum Discount I Can Receive?

No.

You can buy (and save) as much as you want on your 2 purchases as long as they qualify.

Do I Need a Registered Target Account to Get the Discount?

Yes.

Unfortunately, you’ll need a registered account in order to verify your military service and get the 10% discount.

Can I Stack the 10% Discount with Other Target Discounts?

Sorta.

As many shoppers are aware, you get a 5% discount when you use your Red Card…but can you stack that with the 10% military discount for 15% off?

The answer is you CAN get both discounts, but they just don’t stack.

For example, let’s say you buy something for $100, if the discounts “stacked” you would get 15% off, making the item cost only $85.

But instead Target takes 10% off first, making the item $90, THEN you get 5% off the $90, making the final price that you pay $85.50.

A small difference, but one that definitely works in Target’s favor.

Are There Any Items or Brands Excluded From the Discount?

Yes, there are quite a few actually.

While most of the brands are consumer electronics and toys, it’s also worth nothing that ALL alcohol is excluded.

Here’s a running list of the more popular brands that are excluded from their military discount:

  • Barbie
  • Beats
  • Bose
  • DSLR Cameras
  • Fisher-Price Laugh n Learn
  • Fitbit
  • JBL
  • Lego
  • Peg Perego
  • PlayStation
  • Samsung TVs
  • SONOS
  • Sony
  • Trading Cards
  • Ulta Beauty
  • Vera Bradley
  • Weber

Insider Hack: I was told by a friend (who’s a veteran) that you can often use your 10% discount on video game consoles if you buy a BUNDLE DEAL rather than a individual gaming console. He did this recently when buying a PlayStation, a console by itself was excluded, but he got the 10% discount on the Call of Duty bundle.

Your mileage may vary on this hack but I thought it was definitely worth sharing so you could give it a try.

Also, their list of exclusions tends to change every year so be sure to check back each October for a new list.

Ask the Reader: Have you recently registered for the military discount at Target? Was it an easy process or were you required to upload additional documentation?

When Does Walmart Restock? Use This Info to Save Money

I was recently at my local Walmart and noticed that an entire shelf of pasta was practically empty. I then turned the corner and noticed that their ground coffee selection was almost cleared out. It was on a Sunday afternoon and it made me wonder when Walmart does their restocking. So I started asking around and got all the answers to my restocking questions. Here’s everything you need to know plus some tips to how to use this information to save money on your next grocery bill.

When Does Walmart Restock? Use This Info to Save Money

How Often Does Walmart Restock?

Every weekday in the middle of the night.

Walmart restocks general merchandise like groceries, clothing, home items with night crews during the week.

They are typically done restocking shelves by 7 a.m.

I was told by a Walmart assistant manager that they get 1-2 trucks of goods per day and they try to send products “truck to shelf” with little inventory in the back of the store.

Is There a Day of the Week That is Best to Shop?

Monday – Friday when stores open.

To get first dibs on hot items I was told that it’s best to get to Walmart shortly after the doors open during the week.

Is There a Worst Day to Shop?

Sunday afternoon.

By far the worst day to shop for non-perishables is Sunday afternoon as most shelves haven’t been restocked in over 48 hours and you’re gonna find some very picked over aisles.

This is a bummer for many families as Sunday is often the only day of the week when people have time to shop and meal plan for the following week.

If at all possible avoid Sundays and shop on the way home from work on Monday for more selection.

When it comes to perishables like produce, dairy, and even meats, most stores get a delivery truck EVERY DAY of the week so it shouldn’t matter what day you shop, just shop early if you can.

Do Different Departments Restock on Different Days?

Yes.

While Walmart does not have the same restocking schedule as Target, they absolutely have department that need more frequent restocking.

I was told by an employee that the departments that get restocked the most often are

Are Perishable Items Stocked More Frequently?

Walmart meat discount

Yes.

Meat and grocery items are stocked at night during the week, then again during the day as needed.

Hack Alert: The key here is to shop early in the morning (by 8 a.m.) for meats for ONE simple reason…I was told by an employee in the meat department that they discount their meats for quick a sale, and you can grab some great early morning deals, “often up to 75% off”.

How About Popular Electronics?

Wednesday morning.

I was told by a Walmart employee that the vast majority of electronics get restocked in the wee hours of the morning on Wednesday.

Not sure if every Walmart works the same, but it’s worth asking especially around Christmas when hot electronics tend to sell out quickly.

Does Walmart Only Restock at Night?

No.

If Walmart runs out of a product, but has more inventory in the store, they’ve been known to pull stock from the back, or from shelving, and restock during day shifts.

This is especially true if you ask them to check for more inventory and they locate some.

I’ve personally had Walmart employees pull down a BBQ that was out-of-stock on the floor, but was clearly visible in the shelving above.

A couple workers pulled out the forklift, closed off the aisle for safety, and got the BBQ down for me.

It was much appreciated and all I had to do was politely ask.

Is Restocking Different Around Black Friday or Christmas?

Yes.

The store is going to be stocked very differently on Black Friday, with many endcaps and aisles bursting with doorbuster deals.

Expect the biggest differences in the electronics and small kitchen appliance departments, with new “made just for Black Friday” products everywhere.

They’ll often be restocked during the day on Black Friday and Saturday as stuff sells out.

Do All Walmart Stores Stock the Same Items?

No.

While all Walmart locations carry the same staple and grocery items, they also carry items that are VERY specific to their geographical location.

For example, Walmart locations in Nebraska carry a ton of University of Nebraska football shirts, hats, and jerseys. You aren’t going to find those items in Iowa or California, unless you shop on the Walmart website.

Some locations even carry merchandise and clothing from local high schools which is super cool.

Does Walmart Restock Their Website Differently?

Yes.

The products stocked at Walmart warehouses are obviously not stocked in the same way as physical retail locations.

I was told by a Walmart warehouse representative that stock tends to roll in more randomly, and recently has been effected by supply chain backlogs.

Walmart also states that they sometimes run out of stock between the time you checkout from the website, to when they actually attempt to process your order.

If this happens, they’ll send you an email to inform you that your order has been cancelled.

It will be up to you to check back to see when/if the item is available.

Can I Get a Rain Check on Something That is Out-Of-Stock?

No.

Walmart does not offer rainchecks when shopping in-store or online.

But it’s worth noting that Walmart does have a quasi layaway program through a service called Affirm that might be worth checking out if you would like to buy now, but pay later.

Ask the Reader: Are you a Walmart employee and know more about their restocking schedule that I do? Let me know in the comments.
