Bed Bath & Beyond announced recently that ALL stores will be closed by June 30th, 2023. So I thought it was time to break it all down for you. Here is exactly how the BB&B return policy now works. Hope this helps and answers all your questions.

Bed Bath & Beyond Return Policy: Here's The Real Scoop

Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Update:

Anything bought BEFORE April 26th, 2023: You have until May 24th to return or exchange items like usual.

Anything bought AFTER April 26th, 2023: FINAL SALE – no refunds, returns, or exchanges.

How Many Return Days With a Receipt?

The Bed Bath and Beyond return policy gives you 90 return days to return items from date of purchase.

It should be noted that this does require a receipt. Which leads us to our next question.

Are There Exceptions to the 90 Days?

Yes, there are a few major exceptions you should be aware of.

– Tech & Smart Home Items: 30 days.

– Seasonal Items: 30 days. Includes patio furniture, grills, and holiday décor.

– Electric & Battery Operated Items: 60 days.

– Small Kitchen Appliances: 60 days.

– Robotic Vacuums: 60 days.

– Opened Air Mattresses: 60 days.

– Smart Home Items: 30 days.

– Car Seats & Strollers: Both new and unused have a 180 return days.

Is Anything Non-Refundable?

Yes, there are quite a few items that cannot be return to BB&B. Here they are:

– Gift Cards: Completely non-refundable.

– Shipping, Delivery Charges: No refund on these, sorry.

– Assembly Charges: If you pay someone from Bed Bath and Beyond to build something, you can’t get your money back if you decide to return the item.

– Monogrammed, Personalized, Custom-Made Items: Non-refundable.

– As-Is Items: Non-refundable.

– VEBO experiences: Non-refundable.

– Beyond Deals: Non-refundable.

– Special Order Items: Non-refundable.

– Baby Clothing and Destination Maternity Items: These can only be returned with the original tags still attached and your receipt.

– Breast Pumps: Can only be returned unopened and with your receipt.

What If I Lost My Receipt?

If you lose your receipt, your return window is still 90 days.

But….they’ve gotten stricter on this over the years and now typically require the item to be in NEW condition while some discretion is left to the store manager.

Bed Bath & Beyond will use one of the following methods to try and find your purchase history:

  • Credit card
  • Debit card
  • Store or merchandise credit number
  • Gift card number
  • Checking account number

If they CAN’T find any evidence of your purchase, they’ll let you complete an exchange (or get store credit) minus 20% of the current price.

If you prefer cash back, you’ll have to complete a “corporate refund request”, just tell the employee and they’ll help you out.

Do Items Have To Be In Original Packaging?

No, absolutely not.

Just bring the item back in, apparently in whatever condition, and they’ll refund 100% of your money if you still have your receipt.

Bed Bath & Beyond can do this because they have a strong relationship with their suppliers, many of whom will refurbish returned items and resell them at a discount.

Can I Return Items to Any Bed Bath and Beyond Location?

Yes, just bring back your items to any BB&B location and get your return processed.

What About Returning Online Purchases?

The easiest way is to bring it back to your local BB&B store for a refund.

If that is not possible, you’ll find that when you order something from the Bed Bath & Beyond website it’ll come with a FedEx return postage label included.

On the return label you’ll need to circle the item you’re returning, the reason why, and add your phone number.

Just pack up the items in the original package, include the bottom portion of your invoice, stick the FedEx label on it, and drop it off at a FedEx pickup location.

You’re done, now go enjoy a cold pop.

What’s the Scoop on “Truck Delivery” Returns?

When getting a truck delivery from Bed Bath & Beyond I have some tips for success.

When the item(s) gets delivered, be sure to open the box and inspect the item for damage before the driver leaves.

If you see any damage, decline the delivery and write “Package Damage” on the delivery form. Then call BB&B at 1-844-4BBBHOME to report the damage.

If the damage is minimal, you can accept the return then call the above number and they’ll send out a replacement part or product.

Call within 48 hours for best results.

Can I Return a Mattress?

No, not exactly.

But if you’re having a tough time adjusting to your new mattress, they give you 120 days from delivery date to do a 1-Time mattress exchange.

After that you’re stuck with it, so choose wisely.

It should also noted that you’re on-the-hook for all shipping charges.

Call Bed Bath & Beyond at 1-844-4BBBHOME to schedule your mattress exchange.

Can I Get a Price Adjustment?

Yes.

If an item goes on sale within 14 days of purchase you can bring your receipt in and get a price adjustment.

Also, according to Stacy, an 11 year employee, you can get a coupon adjustment as well. Just bring in your receipt and a BB&B coupon and you can get money back for the value of the coupon.

Returned a sofa cover with a receipt and was made to show my driver’s license. Asked why I needed to provide my license and was told that any return over 100.00 is treated that way. Really – since when? Will no longer shop with Bed, bath and beyond.

I return 2 items that was 13.00 each and did not have my receipt but have it on my bank statement and they gave me 10.00 for them should have been the whole amount so what should I do.

Dede

If you didn’t have your receipt they deduct 20% and will only credit you what the item I selling for that day.(ex: if item is on sale or moved to clearance you’ll get that price for the credit)

You can not return anything after a year without a receipt. Their computer doesn’t keep credit cards records after a year, so you might as well throw out whatever you bought if you didn’t save your receipts!!! I was just their with a 2 year old Dyson. They had the model number in their system, everything matched up. I didn’t have a receipt. The manager of the store said nothing he can do, call Dyson. Very rude to me!! Not going back to their stores ever again

The policy has changed to be 180 days for most products.
30 day for seasonal and As-is Merch and Smart home
90 days for anything “electric” (Vacuums, air fryers, sound machines, etc.)

Items with out a receipt will only be accepted in new condition with the current selling price less 20%.

Connie

Makes sense. They spoiled us with their older “no questions asked” return policy..but they have to cover their own butts, too. It’s understandable that they take the 20% off if no receipt, since they are forever sending out coupons…which they allow us to use well past the expiration date. Don’t think for a second there aren’t scammers who would try to return items for full price, otherwise.

I was hoping to still be able to exchange my Keurig, which just decided to stop working a week or so ago. I know it has been at least a year since I got this one, though, so the new policy won’t allow that. It’s ok, though. They have to do whatever keeps the business going. Still one of my favorite stores to shop. <3

I just tried to return a magic bullet because it’s

I just tried to return a magic bullet because it’s leaking. We haven’t even used it that much I know that I purchased it within the past year. I did not have the receipt and none of my credit cards showed having purchased it. Though I myself purchased it it must’ve been cash. They would not accommodate me at all.

How long does it take for a credit to appear on my bank statement?

Bruce

They are legally obligated to return items when their return policy was return anytime. If u bought items before the change in policy. Keep in mind there were two changes in policy. One brought items to a year and the second change in March 2019 brought items to half a year with electronics to 30 days. They can return old items. You will have to push. The manager needs to be called in to put a code in the computer to do over one year return. Another rick BBB uses is to use the correct last 4 digits on your credit card but call it mastercard if you used a visa. So they will then say they can’t find the card which is total B.S. Come when there is a long line in the returns and you need to be aggressive but they will return but they will hassle you.

Not true I was trying to return a item but was told I couldn’t I didn’t have a receipt. Said I would spend twice the price of the item but the manager said no I said ok thank you and I will never shop there again

Linda Collins

I want to return a gift I was given fof Christmas. I Have no gift receipt. Can I return for merchandise credit?

Stacy L Sebastian

I’ve worked for Bed Bath and Beyond for 11 years. The real return policy is as follows: Electric and battery operated items are 90 days. Tech items are 30 days. As-is items are 30 days. All other items (bedding, cookware, bath items, etc) are 180 days, or 6 months. You can do a coupon adjustment or price adjustment if an item goes on sale within 14 days.

Janet

Hi Stacy,
I was told the same when I purchased the Dyson hair dryer online, that the return policy is 90 days. However, when I tried to process an online return, the system indicated “not eligible for return”. Could that be a mistake? Should I try taking it into the store?

Thanks so much for your response!
Janet

Janet

Brought the item into store today to return! The lady said the new policy is now only 60 days for electronic & I already missed the deadline. Told her I was originally told 90 days. She went ahead and processed the return! No issue whatsoever!

I need help recently I purchased a dyson vacuum for over $700 after 20 days I wanted to return this item note I have receipt and original item to return but they refuse to except my return manager was of no help there excuse was the item I purchased was not in there system I’m out of options they won’t return my item I don’t know who else to turn to I contacted bbb for help next step would be to find an attorney

Barbara Chunco

I was sent the wrong product. How do I return wrong item and get new item?

Belinda West

We bought items, it doesn’t work, now the store is closed. need to return it. I have tried online, calling and was disconnected twice.
How do get someone to help?

Olga

My best guess is you have to wait when the stores are open again. Reputable stores extended their return policies at this uncertain time. For example, NORDSTROM rack extended returns to 45 days from the day that will REOPEN. However, I don’t think highly of BBB, so just cross your fingers!

Olga

I am planning to mail back my online order to BBB, but I wonder how much they will deduct from the refund for the FedEx shipping? I printed the label, but nowhere on the website it’s specified the price of the shipping. Anyone knows?

Janet

Returns are easy. Getting your refund, not so much. They don’t even respond to emails except with a canned email saying that they will respond in 5-7 days. It’s been two months now, and several requests for my refund. Nothing from them, either in a refund or a response. Crooked company. Never again.

Stephanie

Yes!!! Problem I am having. $400 item, they have had it for 3 weeks. Called 3 times now with waits at 1 hour. Everytime they tell me a longer time frame that it’s taking them. First 10 days… Then 10-14 business days (calling now on day 14 and they state 15-20 business days).
