Amazon No Longer Offers 2-Day Prime Shipping (Here’s What To Do About It)

Have you noticed that Amazon doesn’t deliver on their 2-day Prime Shipping anymore? It’s actually not even close for my address and I’ve had to return stuff to Amazon as I don’t need it by the time the package shows up. Anything that I want to buy today (a Monday) won’t be delivered until Sunday at the earliest. I tested this on a bunch of different shopping categories and made sure it was all products sold and shipped directly by Amazon, and none could be delivered before Sunday, 6 days from NOW. But alas, not all hope is lost, here’s what you should do to hold Amazon’s feet to the fire. It’ll only take a few minutes and put an extra $10 or $20 in your pocket.

Amazon No Longer Offers 2-Day Prime Shipping (Here's What To Do About It)

Call Them Up and Ask For a 1-Month Refund

When I have a problem with Amazon I usually start a live chat session as it’s easier to say exactly what I want to say.

BUT…for the first time ever, I recommend actually calling them at 1-(888) 280-4331 and say, “Why don’t I get 2-day Prime shipping anymore?”

I tried doing this via Live Chat and it just went in circles due to what I’m guessing was a language barrier.

At this point, give them your zip code and ask them to run it through their system to find out for sure whether your address qualifies for 2-day shipping.

Most addresses do indeed qualify for 2-day Prime shipping.

If your address does qualify, then you probably already know the EXACT reason why you’re not getting your packages within 2 days.

It’s because Amazon can’t hold up their end of the bargain and they should pay for it.

This is when you politely ask for a 1-month refund on your Prime membership (approximately $10) because Amazon can’t hold up their end of the bargain.

I did this recently via a phone call to their customer service department and it took me all of about 5 minutes to score the $10 refund.

There was ZERO hesitation from the rep I talked with and I think they are trained to hand out this refund for those who politely ask for it.

Note: My family orders from Amazon at least 1-2 times per week and I’m not sure if that played a role in getting the 1-month refund, but in either case, it’s definitely worth a shot.

ASK FOR EVEN MORE

From the comments section, several Amazon Prime members were actually given a $20 “inconvenience credit”. Since we we know that a $20 credit is on the table, you might as well ask for it.

Hold Amazon’s Feet to the Fire

I realize Amazon’s been hit by unprecedented demand in recent months, but let’s not forget they are one of the richest companies in the world.

Now that the economy and stores have opened back up in most of the country, the demand for online shopping has been greatly reduced.

Yet Amazon still can’t figure it out and solve their order backlog issues.

What ticks me off the most is Amazon wants to blame it on the pandemic and increased demand in online shopping.

I’d have no problem buying that argument back in March, April or May of 2020…BUT NOT NOW.

It’s my opinion that Amazon was losing money on the 2-day shipping guarantee and is using the current situation as a handy way to get rid of the fast shipping guarantee altogether.

I’d be SHOCKED if 2-Day Prime shipping ever came back at this point.

So the bottom line is get your $10 refund NOW before they aren’t so generous.

The customer service rep also told me that MANY people are calling to cancel Prime, she said she had already cancelled over 50 memberships in the past couple days.

Here’s what a chat rep told me when I asked him if Prime members were complaining about the issue:

Amazon Chat

Prime 2-Day Shipping Has Turned Into 5-Day Delivery

The reason that 2-day Prime shipping has turned into 5, 6, or even 7-day shipping has nothing to do with UPS or the USPS.

It falls 100% on Amazon as they now say that the “2-day shipping guarantee” is from when they actually process your order and get it in the mail.

So if it takes them a couple days to box it up and ship it out, then you’ll get it delivered to your home in about 5 days on average.

If you’re like me, the main reason you joined Prime and paid $139/year was for the 2-day shipping, so this is KIND OF A BIG DEAL.

BONUS Tip: Work-Around Hack Worth Trying…

Thanks to reader Joseph, who commented recently letting us know that his Amazon Business account has been delivering in 2-days since last September.

The interesting part is that his “regular Prime account” is stuck at 4-7 days for delivery.

Since an Amazon business account is FREE to join, and also gives you quantity discounts, setting up an account could be worth a shot.

Also, in case you were wondering, he said his business is not COVID related in the slightest.

I never get the 2-day shipping. I live in a small town and wonder if that’s why, but it’s soooo annoying. At best, it’ll come in a week. It’s so odd that I noticed this week that items are posted as being delivered to certain shipping areas before that time even happens. So, the ‘order update’ isn’t even accurate at all!

I feel like I got scammed. 2 day shipping was the main reason I joined Prime.

Chris O’Day

I was able to get a $37.70 credit applied to my account just by complaining with a rep on the online chat site

I just called Amazon. They refuse to give me a $10 refund and said I pay annually and I must continue my prime subscription for another 8 months. I’m so mad. What’s the point of paying for Prime? It’s ridiculous

I’m waiting for cat doors, because we’re remodeling and we need them. Promised delivery Christmas Eve, still don’t have them and tracking said items went from Kent Washington to Oregon, right past where we live between Olympia and Centralia Washington. How does that compute?

Nancy Klipowicz

Same thing happened to me. Things that were supposed to arrive on thec23rd suddenly weren’t going to arrive until the 28th. And theybstill aren’t here. I am no longer wasting my time with phine calls to Amazon. They never solve the problems any more. I have cancelled my yearly prime membership amd all of my monthly subscription items. I hope more people do this.

Lying about you’re failing adds insult to injury. Think I’m done with Prime, wife watches Prime Movies on her phone a lot and of course they don’t allow just paying for that. I’ve been with them since 2011 and they give zero f’s that I’ve seen customer service go from the best American staffed CS to one of the worst with them now helping sellers be dishonest. Waiting for the A-Z guarantee disappears, which I will immediately thereafter.

Danielle

They do allow a Prime video membership, but it is $8.99 a month.

Kristina

My packages always came in the 2 day window. I was shocked when I attempted to order something in stock and learned I wouldn’t receive until Jan 5th. That’s over a week. Even my subscribe and save haven’t been delivered on the correct date. We pay for the prime subscription and most of the time we could get the item at the store for less, so assuming shipping is built in, and I can get some items faster from other e-commerce companies what’s the deal?

David

Look at the package tracking and note the city and state it shipped from. Google the “City, State and Amazon”. Most likely, it’s from an Amazon fulfillment center. So, you order a non-Amazon item. Even though it’s eligible for free “Prime” shipping, the parent company has to send the item to Amazon, who then ships it to you. That’s why there’s a 5-7 day gap between the time you place an order and it actually ships.

Danielle

Not the case – I took screen shots of items to purchase pre and post cancelling my Prime subscription today. With Prime, delivery was Jan 3. Without Prime, I could have the item delivered today for $5. Same day delivery used to be what I received with my Prime membership.

Nancy

Haven’t had two day shipping for several months now even thoug item descriptions state I will get two day shipping. In addition at least 50% of all items I have received lately have been broken or damaged.
I am done with Amazon. It was great while it lasted but these continual problems are making more work for me. I joined prime membership many years ago for a reason and that was to simplify my life. Now it is making more work for me which is not okay.

Danielle

I had noticed that everything was taking 5-7 days for shipping, and I found this thread while researching why the sudden change. My Prime subscription just renewed a month ago, so I decided to ask for it to be cancelled, which they did for a full refund. I took a screen shot prior to cancelling and then refreshed the app – as you can see (check the time stamps), if I’m willing to pay $5, the items can be delivered to me same day (mostly likely because it’s just past midnight). However, with my Prime membership, the same exact items were telling me Jan 3, which is 5 days away. This is not a fulfillment issue, this is Amazon degrading what we paid for.

Lily

It seems we’re all having the same problem, paying for Prime Shipping, which used to be 2-3 days and has now turned into a week or longer. I never receive 2 day shipping anymore. And Amazon laid off about 10,000 employees in the last few months, so it doesn’t look like they are trying to fix their shipping issues. I’ve been looking around for better online shipping. Believe it or not Walmart actually has 2-3 day shipping. It works the same as Amazon. You pay a fee and then receive 2-3 day shipping IF it’s fulfilled by Walmart. Stay away from third party shippers. They will go for the cheapest shipping which means long ship times. Walmart also offers a free 30 day free trial for this service.

Amazon had a good thing going but they’re failing their customers. Why pay for Prime Shipping when the company isn’t delivering?

4mzreno

Beware- I joined Walmart free local same day, and online shipping as well.. the same day delivery lasted maybe a week and then they got overwhelmed with the demand for home delivery. I couldn’t get an home delivery from the local store for days! Online isn’t any better . I’m guessing we all got spoiled with the immediate gratification of amazon but increases in amazon prime fees are not justified and they haven’t been forthcoming with an explanation of why delivery is taking so long . And yes, things are coming broken due to crappy packaging. My daughter in law was delivered an expensive Emile Henry bread box $180.00 in many broken pieces.. very disappointed with amazon!

Lily

I haven’t had issues with shipping fulfilled by Walmart yet but I did have two issues with shipments from Walmart third party shippers. I’m not sure how that slipped past me because I always look.

Amazon has just straight up abandoned their two and three day shipping for Prime members and even raised the monthly price. I’m getting ready to cancel it. I don’t care about Prime video. And u just need to spend $25 to get free shipping from Amazon without being a Prime member. I’m sure it won’t be that much longer than we have to wait now.

I have an Amazon distribution center in my city (Spokane) and I still don’t get my packages for about 5-7 days. I will not pay for prime this next year.

Sara A

I just called as I couldn’t order items for my sons birthday. They offered me two months refund and I asked if I could cancel with a full refund. They said no, but then came back and refunded my full annual subscription amount without cancelling membership. Probably helps that I was transferred twice and hung up on once. I hope that others are as successful as I was. Really did try to be polite and tell the woman I spoke with it wasn’t her fault.

Mychael

Amazon 2-day shipping is no more for 1 reason…because everyone uses Prime and they cannot catch up. The more and more people using prime, the more brick and mortar places close which means the more people depend on prime which means more orders which means greater delivery time. You want something earlier then next day and a reason to stop complaining? Go buy it in person the same day (or did you forget buying in person is faster and the best guarantee of what you are purchasing)?

Shauna

The main complaint is that we aren’t getting what we paid for: 2 day shipping. This was a benefit that Amazon advertised in order to sell their Prime memberships and they have failed to provide that service. It is dishonest and disreputable. There so already a class action lawsuit in California for Amazon failing to provide this promised service. Why do you think they are so quick to offer refunds or other compensation? Failing to receive the service you paid for is a valid complaint.

Chaz

Here some of my pet peeves including prime problems:

Amazon is hopeless and it is getting worse, there has never been a way to ask questions about any product that Amazon sells, no one can state anything negative about them even if it is true, they will not post the comment, I can no longer speak to an American customer representative, all of the CSR’s are now overseas. I find I cannot understand much of what they say, they charged me shipping on a damaged return, this practice is due to greed and takes away Americans jobs. I have Prime but never get my purchases in less than a week. My Subscribe and Save this month was due yesterday but because Amazon did not ship the items early enough it is taking 7 days to get to me, 4 days after the posted delivery date. Amazon places barcodes over nutrient labels which cannot be removed without tearing the original label, why not use the barcode that is already on the items.
